I'm sure there's a couple of tourist rails that still use steam engines. The passenger and freight railroad companies all use diesel and electric. The freight railroads need conductors more than passenger railroads. You're from Vegas, they have Union Pacific out there and BNSF. If you're interested in it, you should apply. If you want to work for a passenger rail, you could try Amtrak or whatever's local out there.
