Haven't owned one for fkn years. We got some nephews and nieces coming to stay for a month so I thought i'd invest...........its not for me, honestly, its for the kids. So.........I like first person shoot-em ups and fighting games like Tekken (see how long its been)..........i guess some online capabilities and shit wouldn't go amiss. I've read a few reviews online but what do you think............whats a good console to buy, and I suppose one or two games for the kids (aged 5-10) to back up my reasoning to the missus.

Get the wii. I think it comes with wii sports, so that right there is like 4 or 5 (kid friendly) games.

I agree with Caspar, at that age the Wii is the way to go. Nintendo has always been the more kid friendly of the console makers, and it makes them actually move around some instead of just sitting there.

There are some, but there will be more in the future. But seriously: if you can get your hands on one: buy it! Nintendo kids games are also fun for grown ups.
Allthough X360 has the zombie game...
Why not just clone them something to play with Doc.
The wee 5 yr old boy thinks that all scientists make dinosaurs and is fully expecting one upon arrival.

Buddy of mine was telling me he has medal of honor: vanguard and he loves it.
Also, even the games that were targeted at younger players have shown to be fun for us old bastards. I know Wii bowling is fun.

Personally, the Wii and the X360 would be the two consoles on my mind. The Wii is just fun as hell, you actually get off your ass and it's the best console ever when hanging with some (drunken) friends (allthough the PS2 Eye-Toy was good too). Like Loathe says: bowling, but also golf and tennis, are fun!
The X360 on the other hand, has some killer games for grown ups and is better availble.

I'll stick with Playstation. I haven't tried the new one, but if they make a new version of "Kengo: Master of Bushido" I'm gonna have to buy it. That's the best game ever...

definatly the Wii. its a good system for all ages. The games at the moment arent that amazing but theres supposed to be some really cool stuff coming out soon. not to mention its a bit cheaper than the 360 or ps3 and just as fun. and you can buy and play almost all the old nes, Snes, and alot of sega games

Not at all, the games are crap and the system is made for kids. I know at least 10 people that bought xbxo 360 and a Wii system months ago and guess which one they are nor bored of........right the xbox.....plus the fact that the graphics are better and there are tones of games....you can also get the HDDVD add on so you can play HD DVD movies.

Ok, I lied... San Andreas is actually better. But it depends on what you're looking for. It's not better if you want a one on one fighting game, cause then Kengo is definately the best. And the cool thing about it is that you can see all the techniques are actual aikido techniques that you can use in real life. They'll work a bit better if you're armed with a katana though...

my daughter has all the systems and her fave still is PS2 and 2nd is wii. She can play days at a time on those things

I have a Nintendo DS Lite and a Wii when it comes to newer systems. DS is a great way to waste time; Wii is fun - I got it as a gift - but I'd probably wait a year or two before committing to anything... The way things are going, it looks like Wii will suffer a similar fate to Gamecube: a few great Nintendo games and limited success / selection in terms of third-party games. One thing I do play pretty often on Wii is Metal Slug Anthology; fucking great!
I don't even play that many games, and when I do it's old games on an emulator or SNES... Most newer stuff is all flash and no substance.

Everyone in our house....Favorite console-Wii..Favorite handheld...DS Lite.
Psp bites dick if you actually want kids to have something to play on it.They do not make barely any childrens games for it. DS has a ton.
