i can get Fred Perrys off ebay for $20 per before shipping. obviously they're usually already worn, but its out there. and the thing was, the working class skins would save up for those expensive polos and sta prest, because they lived for the dancehall, looking sharp. expensive polos, rare northern soul vinyls is all they bought besides beer, basically.

Actually if we're going this spirit of 69 stuff wouldn't they save up for the tonic suits so they could look like the rude boys? And they would wear ben shermans with that rather than fred perrys. But what do I know, I wasn't there. Oh wait neither were you. Stop living in the past. It's one thing to dress smart and like a skin but it's another to act like a twat and talk about the spirit of 69 and what you've been doing.

i know i am the new guy and should probably mind my own but fuck it. Here is the thing you need to respect those you dont know. Cause you never know who you might need as an allie one day. Its not show respect to those who deserve it .. respect everyone except the ones that prove that they dont. Its just a good moral thing to live by. Makes you an upstanding lad.

And as for the service- I half feel like calling you out on that shit. What branch of the service are you in? Grissom AFB is the only thing I can think of that's even close to where you live. It's a two hour drive...

My girlfriend just got me 3 Perry's that were ordered online. I didn't have the heart to tell her that they were knockoffs. They're really good though as far as knockoffs go. The only way you can tell is when you hang them along side real ones (externally anyway... inside the tag is completely different). I don't see what the big deal is if they're real or not. If you're that pretentious that you can only have real ones than don't buy them online. Who really gives a fuck. If you can afford real ones then get a better job or consider pulling your head out of your ass. There's more to life than what ppl wear

define "knockoff".. they're made by the same factory, just sold on the ol' black market (ebay)... get a retailers pack from fred perry and you'll see exactly what i mean. by everyone's supposed standards it's a knockoff if you got it for less than $80, even though it's made by the same place.

Alot of the clothing in the 60's and 70's that mods and skins bought was still considered expensive, it was just the income that they made compared to the kind of money people make today was much higher. Also they were kids so they didn't have to worry about paying bills and or having a car. Most of em either used the Tube or vespas for transport. But the most important thing is that kids in this scene should get jobs and work alot so that they can afford the clothing. I watched a documentry about 1969 skinheads. They said they could only afford about one shirt a weak and only had a couple pairs of trousers, and it usually took them a couple months to pay off a suit.

I would say being in the scene here in boston for about 8 years, that around here anyway it is still part of skinhead to look smart and get nice gear, although I know most of the mid and northwest feels differently. I understand though, because skinhead traveled through many other channels before it reached out their, where as here on the east coast it is much more directed towrds the routes and that whole "spirit of 69" thing. But it is what it is. Who cares if one guy dresses smart and another like a shlep? Either way doesn't make you more or less of a skinhead.

I didn't say anyone sucked, I was asking if anyone dressed traditonal anymore, and I got my answer. But I don't dislike people who don't. I have plenty of skinhead friends who just do the sambas and t shirt thing, but I also have many friends who dress traditional.

The first implies that they made more money than they would today, and that they had disposable income.
The second implies that they didn't have much money and could only afoard a modest amount.

I have a few Fred Perry's... the English ones cost 55 quid each... so that's $110 for you people across the Atlantic using monopoly money. It's all down to your priorities innit... I spend alot of money on clothes... but when I do I don't spend it on much else... give the raving a bit of a rest, don't use as much drugs... I'm not a drinker or a smoker so I save money on that... I'm a skinny cunt so my appetite allows me to cut out one meal a day. I like looking classy so I'll part with my money to do it... I'm not losing sleep at night over it. I'd rather look good than have plump wallet. At the end of the day it's just money... sometimes you have it, sometimes you don't. You'll earn some more in the future... that's way it goes... I never could understand people who horde their money just so they can have a lot of it. I understand if you've got a wife or kids and a mortgage... but I'm a young, single male, I've got rent to pay, pay for my oyster card, myself to feed... I spend money on going to clubs and using drugs, buying my mates a drink at the pub or girls a drink when I chat them up... on the odd occasion I go to the football... travel during the summer and take the odd weekend trip out of London... what else do I have to spend my money on?

it was just the income that they made compared to the kind of money people make today was much higher. Also they were kids so they didn't have to worry about paying bills and or having a car.
I watched a documentary about 1969 skinheads. They said they could only afford about one shirt a weak and only had a couple pairs of trousers, and it usually took them a couple months to pay off a suit.
---
The first implies that they made more money than they would today, and that they had disposable income.
The second implies that they didn't have much money and could only afoard a modest amount.
I am sorry bout that I should have worded it better. I am just saying that even though they were working class, they still made the money to buy the clothing they wanted.

I totally agree, that is exactly how I think about it.

Yea, I bet that is true. Because the reason ben sherman started becoming popular was because he started copying american style button down shirts, which were pretty popular before 69. Bens werent importated so perhaps they were cheaper. My boss said when he was a kid in the 60's, he and his brother would take the bus to NYC from boston and there were shops where they got 2 tonic suits for $50.00. and MTM suits were only like $80.

I get ben shermans sometimes and sell those for 30. I used to work at a place in boston that has made in england freds for 25. I dono, let me know some stuff you are interested in and I can look and see what i got and give you a fair price.

I dono what you mean exactly, There have always been two styles of sta prest, the jeans and the slacks. If you mean the ones that actully just look like shitty denim with creases or the 100% poly ones, I do not carry those. I got all older stuff. I even have some Big E ones and some white ones. But I also got alot of other sta press other then levi's. I got the Lee ones, which are called Lee Prest, and then I got a whole bunch of other companies that did perma prest trousers in the 60's and 70's. Wrangler did wrangler prest as well, but oddly enough they are harder for me to find then the Levi's or the Lee.
