Yeah, first thing I would check the sound card and sound card driver. Sometimes just updating the driver, or removing and reinstalling the device will fix the problem.

ya get it fixed? if not, call the sound blaster support line and the should be able to help you figure it out. had to do that with my video card.

Double click the speaker icon, make sure that the master volume is turned up, AND the WAV volume is turned up.

Also make sure that none of the settings have been muted.

Try different speakers first as a comparison, if you don't have other speakers to try use headphones. If Hoon's suggestions didn't help, look and see if it is detected in the device manager. Look at the sound section in the control panel and see if the audio playback device is set right, sometimes there is more than one device listed there. Try a system restore to before the problem started. Try the card in different pci slots. Sometimes in the bios there is an option to turn the sound off, or some other other sound options there you can check.

get an old sand dune, a case of ammo, said 12 gauge, and charge people $25 a component to blow hell out of their old PCs and other technological nightmares.

That's actually not a half bad idea. I would prefer to destroy my own shit though. I don't want to pay someone else to have all the fun. I saw something one time about bars in Japan maybe that let you get out frustration by throwing plates and stuff in a room. You pay however much for a stack of plates and then just go to town.
