When did these two holidays become something horrible? Each year fewer kids trick or treat, the last year my oldest went to public school they were not allowed to dress in costume, they didn't have a Halloween parade (where all the lil kids in costume walk around the school outside for parents and whoever to get a kick out of their costumes)..and the paper sent home was to the effect of "If your child comes in costume they will be sent home and you will be asked to come in for a meeting with the school." it also went to mention something about "costumes scaring other children and will not be permitted.."
Holy what the fuck?
When I was a kid Halloween WAS about scaring. It WAS about getting enough candy to make your teeth rot out, up'ing the neighbor kids folks for treats (You know you always made your mom get the good shit when you could!) and just having fun.But it's being looked at in a bad light now, I mean fuck...where and when did this happen and can we go back in time to give some of these children backbones, take the sticks out of parents asses and bring some joy back to the childhood of children?
Now..Christmas. I don't give a poop what you celebrate during "Holiday" timie, but ONE thing we all agree on (99.9% of us at least) is the following...
Christmas lights are plug in glowng lights.
Christmas tree's hold decorations and are made of pine.
Santa brings lil kids toys (wink wink nudge nudge)
Frosty WAS a snowman
Christmas caroles are sung and include songs like "Here comes Santa Claus" "Jingle bells"...and "Silent Night".
Again..when in the FUCK did it become "Holiday lights...Holiday trees and Holiday songs (Any that do NOT say Santa or Christmas are allowed). What the fuck people. I hate this, I hate how pc and tender sappy sweet we've become. I decorate a CHRISTMAS TREE with my kids..we eat CHRISTMAS COOKIES...Pack hangs the CHRISTMAS LIGHTS. I hate people each year a little more. I hate the places that are trying to force feed this whole "Halloween is devil time.." and "Holiday time is FUN time.." shit.
Christmas vacation...Christmas egg nog...Merry fucking CHRISTMAS to all.
Damnit.
Edit- For the record my lil one is going to be a dragon and my oldest will be scaring the fuck out of the faint at heart for halloween. He's being Quint from Jaws...Quint WHILE he's being eaten by the shark. Blood coming out of the mouth, half a shark eating his legs and belly. Take THAT sensitive parents...take THAT people who think Halloween is bad and lil kids can't have fun. I hope he makes teenagers cry and kids his age run screaming!

Why the fuck can't the kids dress up? and furthermore why can't they be something scary? Are kids really that weenie now?
and
I agree with the leave Christmas alone thing. It's Christmas, you make cookies, over eat, and get presents from some fat guy you don't know. Where is the down side? stupid fucks...

I couldn't agree more. Kids are being raised as pussy ass bitches, polical correctness is out of control, the egg nogs not strong enough, Christmas isn't really Christian anymore hasn't been for a while, so merry christmas and happy fuckin' halloween, lets get scary.
If you're that concerned with the sensitivity of your chiild you may as well start homeschooling them now, kids are cruel and do a lot scarier shit than dressing up for halloween.
If you're that worried about oppressing other religions, or whatever the fuck, man up and do something about it. Saying happy holidays won't do a damn thing for actual discrimination.

Sabby, send 'em to school in costume, let 'em get sent home and you called in for a meeting - then you get the excuse to come in and ream out the teachers for being PC nazi fuckwits.

i agree send them to school in costume and then when you get called in show up in a scary ass costume and fucking ream out the teacher. halloween was the best holiday when i was a kid and it still is, when i have kids i hope they love halloween. i think it'll be hard for them to not like it since 3/4 of my garage is filled with decorations and we start decorating my house every october 1st.
christmas i could care less about but changing all these songs in this big "we have to be pc or people will sue us scare tactic" is ridiculous. i remember singing all the songs, the 3 jewish kids in my classs sang the songs and didnt cry about it and im not sure if kwanzaa was invented then but the black kids sang them so who cares. they are just songs dont like em dont sing em.

Halloween is a wonderful institution and shouldn't be fucked with.
We used to have "halloween costume parades" ..where all the kids would dress up and walk around in circles out on the football field when we were in elementary school or kindergarten. And this was back when our parents MADE all the costumes.... i would be Robin Hood one year... dracula the next. My mother sewed everything...
*sigh* memories.
Whatever, fuck this. I'm moving to wherever this rampant PCism can't find me.

This is part of the reason I am sending my kid to catholic school when the time comes. Part of my parental right is getting to see my pride and joy in a christmas pagant.
When is comes to Halloween, I want to have the scariest house on the street with the haunted front yard and all of that. If the school doesn't have a party for the kids.....I'm throwing one. Cuz, I'm the 'cool mom'.

Sorry, but I still keep the Christ in Christmas. I'm not going to tone down my faith so the expression "Merry Christmas" becomes as meaningless as "God Bless You" when someone sneezes.

ok...here is my 2 pennies worth...
i am tired of taking away all the traditions, festivals and celebrations in life because some people might feel left out. shouldn't we allow all traditions, festivals and celebrations to go on and teach tollernce and exceptance of other cultures? i am n ot a christian, and i love christmas....and easter for that matter....someone says merry christmas or happy easter, i say thanks...you too....it doesn't have to be my faith or my tradition to be respectful enough of others to realize that it means something to them.

Hail Yuletide!
I'm not religious but why does this generation insist on tearing down a faith that was very much part & parcel of the foundation & culture of our country?
Same thing happened in Russia with the Bolshevic revolution,in regards to the masses' faith being publically purged...

In Canada it's much worse.
We don't expect new immigrants to adapt to us, instead we are expected to learn and be sensitve to their cultures and to change law and traditions so that they are more suited to them.

I went to catholic school too and have the scars to prove it.
But in the US catholic schools have the benifits of private schools such as resources and smaller class room sizes...because you have to pay for it.
I'll be sure to keep my eye out for bitter old nuns though.

Christmas in of itself was never about Christ. Constantine wanted to find a way to include the Pagans his empire ruled into the Roman way of life. He took pieces the Pagans could relate to, such as the tree, winter solstice, and made up Decemeber 25 as the day Christ was born. That completely disregards that facts in the Bible, such as the weather of late Decemeber in Bethlehem would have prevented the King from recalling all citizens for a census. Other such inconstancies.
Having said all of that, I am so in love with Christmas and the idea of paying homage to the birth of Jesus. I do not mind that folks want to have nothing to do with that, Jesus does not have to mean anything to anyone other than his faithful. It when these fucks start monkeying with my faith and attempts to devalue my rituals and what I hold dear.
My children will be going to a private school as well, much for the same reasons you stated.
I blame government funded public schools for this crap. Don't want to offend or single out anyone for any reason. Even for greatness.

Yes, My family are immigrants, I think that it was pretty implicted on who I was talking about. Let me clarify, you don't see boat loads of Irish asking the goverment to change laws to encompass their beliefs. Nor do you see the Irish-Canada's in jail for ploting to kill the PM and planning attacks on Canada.
Nor do you see, Irish-Canadians in Canadian jails saying that thier rights are being infringed upon since chow times don't agree with their religious holidays.

I think that would vary from school to school, we celibrated it in the school I went to.

My family is very atheist and we still celebrate Christmas. It's not really a religious holiday for me, just a time to get together with family. And Halloween is about as threatening as schoolyard tag, which is also on the way out. These kids are going to be pussies when they grow up.

It's frustrating- one of those situations where people need to get the fuck over themselves. For kids, Christmas is fun. It may or may not include some concept of a magic baby or a magic fat man. When I was young, I think Santa/Rudolph/Elves were the only thing mentioned in school and that was fine. I got all the Jesus stuff at home, and more than anything else the holiday was about love and family- both of which show up in either Jesus or Santa. But now they can't even mention Santa? Wow.
As far as the Halloween thing, again, it's a time for people to have fun, to dress up in really stupid costumes and run around getting candy, or toilet papering houses, whatever. I can't recall a time when pagans or druids were ever mentioned to me, and quite honestly I was scaring the hell out of myself (with the always fun scary movie/my own imagination cocktail) more than anybody who was ever dressed as Batman or a monster.
My kids will always celebrate both holidays. If they get sent home with a note, it's more time to spend together by the tree or taking them Trick-or-treating...
...and I welcome the opportunity to meet with the higher-ups that want kids to stop having fun.

But for some of us it's not 'bulllshit', it's part of the fabric of who we are. Not so much religion but religious beleifs. I think it's natural for parents to instill in their children the same beleifs or vaules they have. I'm sure your parents weren't religious, so they didn't raise you to be religious.
Since I believe in God, it's my responsibility as a parent to teach my child about God. When they become adults, if they choose to reject those teachings it's up to them....but in the mean time/when the time comes they'l get religious instruction.

That's one of the most responsible things I've ever heard a parent say. My wife and I have talked about this as well, and while she and I have become much more "pluralist" in our beliefs (we don't claim any one branch/faith is right, but rather embrace the ideals of love and fellowship that run through many), it's still good to give kids a particular "base" on which to start from. Ours will probably be rooted primarily in the Christian tradition, as it is what the two of us know best, but like you said- if the kid chooses to go another route, that's completely up to them.
Well said.

because it is a belief people still hold strong. and saying that you know what happens when you die is a load of shit, that is where faith comes in. I am by no means a religious man, but I still respect others views on religion(s). who's to say who's right or wrong? besides, there's plenty of cases of Athiests' children growing up to be Christians and whatnot. the "storybook" will always be passed on.
