She was lauded as a hero in April 2006 during a police standoff involving a distraught man threatening to kill himself. The five hour standoff promptly came to a peaceful end when McCallion showed up on the scene and demanded he stand down so that police, paramedic and fire personnel could attend to more important matters.

Why is this in politics? I don't know why you are posting this but people love her, shes been the mayor since 1978. She has grown Mississauga to be the third largest city in Ontario with consistently low taxes, good job growth and a huge surplus....Here's to another 30 years hurricane Hazel!

I have never come across this lady in my lifetime. I've never heard of her until this video. I live in California (considering CA bureaucracy), so this unbelievably inspirational. You guys are lucky to have someone like that.

I also kind of wanted to lighten up the mood in the politics section. Shit gets dreary sometimes. God bless Hurricane Hazel!!
