Yeah, take it to the vet. S/he'll be able to tell you exactly what needs to be done with it (how much food it should be getting a day, how long you should make it chase the red laser beam in circles and then straight into the wall...)

caspar you rule, that is exactly the thing cats go crazy for and lazers are sold at gas stations for christ sake. they chase them for hours and all you have to do is sit on your ass on the couch and catch up on food tv. and catnip is just funny to watch.

and feed it an indoor formula or low weight cat food, they exist. chicken and turkey are better for them.

The cat needs excersize. I never had a fat cat but one did come from a fat cat family....anyways...buy the cat some crickets that you normally would buy for a snake...cat should chase it and eat it.
What does the cat eat anyways? Mine has a bowl of dry food all day long and one can of "whatever" once daily at the same time.

Well I just got her from a friend and she came with a big bag of regular cat food...I know there's diet stuff but the problem is we have a kitten too, so how would we keep the food separate? As for exercise...I think once she gets used to the house I'll let her outside, but until then she's very mean and not playful!

I used to do that with my ex's cat all the time. Drove the guy crazy. The cat loved it.
