This happened about 2 blocks from where I grew up, and where my parents still live. I think I may wanna be moving out the Philadelphia area soon.

PHILLY CITY OF BROTHERLY UGH
Reuters

October 20, 2007 -- PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia is home to the least attractive people in the United States, a survey of visitors and residents showed yesterday.
The city of more than 1.5 million people was also found to be among the least stylish, least active, least friendly and least worldly, according to the "America's Favorite Cities" survey by Travel & Leisure magazine and CNN Headline News.
About 60,000 people responded to the online survey which ranked 25 cities in categories including shopping, food, culture, and cityscape, said Amy Farley, senior editor at the magazine.
For unattractiveness, Philadelphia just beat out Washington and Dallas/Fort Worth for the bottom spot. Miami and San Diego are home to the most attractive people, the poll found.

Ya know why... Nobody gives a fuck in this city. Just last week a group of fucking 11 year olds smashed out the windows of a deli around the way from me because they didn't have the drinks the kids wanted. People will spit in your face just as fast to look at you here.

i heard it was bad down there but didnt know it was that bad, ie: cops getting shot in the head at 10:30 in the morning... looks like i'll be scratching Philly of the "places to possibly move" list.

Yeah... Don't move here.

Especially in North and North East Philly. They don't give a shit what time of day it is. They'll shoot you for 10 dollars in broad daylight. At least in Southwest and West they wait until it's dark.

the weird thing is the few times i been down it didnt seem so bad... then again i wasnt exactly sober and we were bar hopping. still, didnt strike me as such a combat zone... must of really went down the shitter in the past year. huh?

Where were you bar hopping? Center City? Center City's relatively safe. The combat zones are the bad lands like west philly, overbrook, southwest philly, and pretty much all the northern sections, minus a few areas.

i dont remember the exact area but it was Whiskey Dix and a few other spots on that strip... it was a rather blurry night from excessively drinking.

What's the area U of Penn is at like? I was thinking of applying there. I knew Philly was a rough place, but the Ivy League isn't worth getting mugged over. Well... Actually... Anyway, what's it like?

Thats Northern Liberties, I think. That area aint too bad, but just a few blocks from there is where it turns into the badlands again.

U Penn is in University City, which is like the west side of Downtown philly. Good chance of getting mugged down there, for sure. Carry a firearm.

Haha, are you serious? I wonder if they allow firearms on campus... Damn, I bet it's a target right environment too, with all those rich college kids, UPenn is the most expensive public school in the country.

It aint just UPenn down there. Theres.... U Penn, Drexel U, University of the Sciences, and The Restaurant School. It's still West Philly, which is the ghetto. There just happen to be a lot of rich white college students in the area. I'm damn serious about carrying a firearm into pretty much any area of Philadelphia. Even in the Southeast Suburbs of the city... They fucking suck to.

I looked at Mapquest and noticed it's across a river from the Philadelphia Gas Works, and Sun Oil or something. I don't know Philly, but I'm taking heavy industrial zoning as a bad sign.
