I admin a gaming message board and I've been having some trouble. We got bot bombed and all these new accounts have popped up. Not posting anything but out of 35 pages of registered users, only about 3 pages are real users. So my question is:
Even though its not a fancy coded board, is there a way I can delete everyone with a post count of zero? Not finding anything on the Administration panels.
Also what can I do to prevent this in the future? I have visual confirmation turned on, but doesn't seem to help. What else?

Yes its easy, go into your Mysql database, and look at the users table. Build a query to basically "Delete ALL username WHERE Post_Count = 0" query should look something like that its been a while since I worked with it.

You can also use the SQL admin control panel to search for post count zero, and then delete the records from there. or at least you can on mine.

I'm fixing another site for a friend with the same problem so I'll quote to you what I told him - the Visualization thing is a scam and doesn't work anymore - bots get right around it - Also I did read on phpbb once to "not" delete users from the sql server directly - Mostly this phpbb is just a pain in the ass and need to catch up to the times - but with a few mods and tools, you can get it working fairly smooth.
Actually - I think the best thing going for your problem is to install this:
Textual Confirmation (download here: http://bbantispam.com/tc/ )
Basically it will allow you to pick a few questions that must be answered by whomever is registering - this way it can't be automated as easily - It comes with 2 default questions like "are you human" that you have to change.
You can also download the database update ( http://bbantispam.com/tc/db_update.zip ) which will allow you to do the dbase updates without having to get into the database. Instructions can be found here: http://bbantispam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=69
The one thing it will do is email you every time a bot tries and fails to register - it will also send that same mail back to the guys building this mod and they are putting a master list together of all spammers so one day they will have a blackhole list - you just point to their list and if it there's a match - there's no signing up! hehe
Someone will have to download this (or upload) to the server, put files in the right directory and make what ever changes are required in the install.txt file. Not sure if you have Shell access or just this web admin access..

I appreciate the help guys. However I really don't know my way around the controls. Just the basic shit and so I wasn't able to find what I needed to. This is what our control panel looks like.

PhBB says not to delete directly from the database, but its not hard to do if you know what you are looking for. Especially with a good Mysql interface/editor, which there are many PHP scripts for. The main problem is with beginners trying to modify the Mysql DB stucture. If you are just a basic user with the problem, just temporaily change to an email verification/requst to be a memeber for the moment, until you can get someone in there to clean it up.

A gaming message board huh? What's the skinhead doc or whatever where they're talking to the old skin on the train and ask him if he has any words for the gays and he says "Yeah, don't be fucking gay."?
