Just wondering today about something .As I explained to my 6 year old stepdaughter why she should get her ass off of our glass top coffee table, explaining to her why Adam can't feel part of his pinky finger anymore,I started to think about if I'll ever get total feeling back in it.It's alot better now than it was 5 years ago,but still only about 50%.Does anyone have any experience with long term nerve damage?

After three elbow dislocations I can barely feel the entire underside of my arm as well as my pinky and ring finger. At one point I had a doctor that said he could surgically repair it, but that was years ago. More recently I've been told that they can't unpinch a nerve after years of it being that way because it becomes permanently damaged. So if this is a recent injury I'd try and schedule surgery ASAP.

I wouldn't say 4 years is long term by any means, but I've had nerve damage in my left knee since I took a slam on my bike in 03. They sucked the majority of the fluid out of it a few weeks later, but now I'd say I'm about 50% as well, if not a little better.

Your be surprised. When I was slingin sautae pans for a living, I had a permanent dead patch and callous that ran across my palm, due to repeatedly grabbing hot pans. That was nerve damage due to burning though. With cuts its different. Basically what is blocking the nerve is scar tissue, or even a complete separation. It CAN regenerate, but usually it does not. There has been advances in micro neurosurgery. The question is, do you have full use of your pinky, if yes, then how much do you wanna spend to feel just to have sensation back in that appendage again?

Back when I was about 11 or 12, I was riding my brand new bike, and crashed into one of those brick staircases that stick right out into the sidewalk. I whacked the side of my leg right above my knee on the corner of the bottom step and haven\'t been able to feel anything there since.

I got stabbed in the upper outside portion of my thigh with a Kabar back in 1999, I haven't been able to feel anything on the outside of that leg from my bum all the way down to my knee since. The doc said it had severed a nerve apparently so because now its still dead.

Since I broke my jaw I have numb patches all over my right side of my face; namely under my eye and in front of my sideburn.

I have a patch of my face I can't feel thanks to military dentists, and a patch on my leg thanks to army parachutes :)

A guy I know is a testicle short thanks to his trusty T-10. Guess he missed that block of instruction...
