So what with the looming walter shortage here in the metro atlanta and the thread about it. (http://skinheads.net/forums/showthread.php?t=15237) It got me thinking. Are you prepared if the shit hit the fan so to speak in your area?
So here is the questions I am posing to you all.
In a SHTF (Shit Hits the Fan) scenario do you have a escape plan? If so what is it? For those of you who dont own guns whats your plan?

It depends on how serious stuff was. If it was say, a plague, or a an alien invasion, we would just head out towards the mountains. We\'d probably travel with a few of our neighbors, who all own many, many, many, guns. We have lot of cases of water, canned food, first aid, etc, in our basement, so were pretty well prepared.

So here is mine. And its changed in the last few months seeing that we moved to a very rual area.
I have enough ammo and food to hold up in our house that is off main roads for at least a week. Well ammo we can hold out alot longer than a week but food a week to 10 days. In that time to Federal and State Goverment should at least have things under control.
If this hasnt happend I have 3 hunting clubs that are in very rual areas were I could take my family in case all hell was braking lose. Most of our camping gear is always packed and ready to go. These offer liveable cabins with water and ample hunting for food. They are also very isolated and you wont just FIND them with out having to look very hard.

Ollie would be pissed if I posted his escape plans. The zombie thing is comedy, for everything from a virus escaping from the local CDC, terrorist attack etc, we have real plans laid out. How to get our girl from her school and on the way to FIL's farm in under 1 hour. My husband has even figured out if wind currents could carry nuclear fallout to FIL's house using weather trends over the last 10 years.
For the record, nope.
The ultimate goal is to make enough $ to buy a whole mountain, maybe Blue Ridge or even Wyoming, and build a 100% self contained/reliant working farm. Grow our own food, raise our kids with limited contact to rotten popular culture. I would slit my own throat if my daughter ever wanted the garbage I saw some of the young little things wearing during Halloween. Gross.
yes, we are wackos. Bite me.

I never really had a laid out plan until I had to evacuate for Katrina, talk about a cluster fuck. The general public is truly stupid, what sense does it make when EVERYBODY is trying to get out of dodge to take an exit only to drive a mile up to the next on ramp and cut a bunch of cars off? Or to drive on the shoulder to get around ppl? I did not even go far from home, I went to a city called Franklin a drive that usually takes me 90 minutes it took 15 hours.
Stupid sheeple, if people would have not fucking panicked traffic would have rolled along smoothly.

An excellent model for a self preservation plan was loosely layed out in the book Farnhams Freehold by Robert Heinlein. While it is a work of fiction, I think it does a fairly good job of addressing not only material but also moral dillemas that you might find yourself in should there be a instantaneous lack of Big Brother. Anyway it is interesting reading. Above all else the one thing I have done is to compile an extensive library covering ways to perform tasks I dont currently know how to do; I.E. jackleg surgery, the making and tanning of leather and about a million other mundane things that I wouldnt normally think of. As others on here I also have gratuitous amounts of ammunition and weapons suited to many tasks, as welll as the means to reload ammunition for everything I have above rimfire cartridges. I may be a nutcase but if something happens I will be a living nutcase, with my family intact. I would encourage everyone to take the time to learn a mundane task that has been outmoded by technology at least once a year. My latest is knots. A good knot can do alot more than you would think and all it requires a bit of internet research and maybe carrying a length of string in your pocket. There are a million other tasks just like it. Reading and research is fun anyway.

My advice is watching the news and getting out before the tidle wave of people starts trying to flee the city.

Nothing wrong with that. If my company gets off the ground and my income goes up I am planing on buy land for retirement in ND, SD or Wyoming. I also plan on buying a bit of land up around my house now if i find the right spot....10 to 30 acres.....should do nicely.

I can get almost anywhere in the state of NJ without ever touching a major highway. The one thing about living in a metropolitan area (and the entire state of NJ is considered metro) is most people are too lazy to learn the back roads, county roads and even street to street roads, so even if shit does hit the fan, the majority of people have no clue about the back roads anyway.
Manhattan.. i pity you. That is one place that is truly fucked if shit does hit the fan.

Its not about having an amazing plan. Its about having a few fall back locations were you can go to hold up in case of something fucked up happing. IE Dirty Bomb, Zombie attack, Aliens attacking that sorta thing....
Really though a nuclear attack of some sort would really fuck up a major part of this country. Its always good to be prepared.
1) Have some clothes packed. IE my hunting gear stays packed year around ready to toss in the truck.
2) Have some Camping gear Ready. MY sleeping bags and tent are ready along with A camp stove, and laterns plus flashlights and batterys.
3) Guns like'm or not they will come in handy. I have my Ready AR setup and I have a hunting rifle that is ready to go. I have ample Ammo for both. Though in my carry pistol and I am basicly set for a weekend in the woods or 3 months of back woods survival.
4) MAPs, and a GPS unit. Something I have of my area and areas I might goto.
5) Radios. I have nice digital hunting radios. Nothing fancy but helpful.
Theres other things but you get the idea.

A gps is a good Idea but shouldnt be a end all. People should learn basic map reading and land navigation skills. The reason for this is that if shit really hits the fan, the land based computers that feed the navigation sattelites their info will be FUBAR The Army's manual for land navigation is unclassified and can be downloaded for free from various locations. Learn to read a compass. Also you can order maps that are set up on the Military Grid Reference System of a specific area from your local parks service if they are not of a classified area. I have all of the military map sheets for a 400 Square Kilometer area surrounding my "evac area" you can also get good sattelite imagery now from google earth and save it in a binder or whatnot. I will try to find the information you need to request those maps and post it on here I did it a long time ago.
P.S. with a little math and a straight edge you can turn a highway map into an MGRS map as well.

Not really. Buy a kayak. Problem possibly solved.
I think about stuff like this alot, and I think the solution isn't so much having a foolproof plan, as it is being able to improvise.
Guns. Why? I'm going to be making tracks with the emphasis on drawing as little attention to myself as is possible. Obviously some situation could occur where maybe I'd want a gun, but not a main concern of mine.
Food. Everyone should have enough in their kitchen to be able sustain themselves for a while, if not find it as you go.
I just don't think holding up is as good a plan as getting out of town, and when it comes to getting gone, you're going to want to have as little as possible to move with. Water is the most important thing. Followed by proper clothing depending on what time of year it is.

hunting/sniper rifle, assault rifle and sidearms for me and the wife. lots of ammo. anyone that gets in our way dies. i assume it would be mob rule.
considering my hunting/shooting skills, i doubt we'd have many problems surviving in the wild. we got lots of mountains and forest out here. i always keep a survival pack ready in the truck "...in case shit..."..

10 million people in kayaks jostling for space going down the hudson and/or east river is a funny thing to think about to say the least.
10 million people jostling for space over the limited # of bridges and tunnels going into and out of that city is a scarier thought.

The key to the the solution is to have a before and after timeframe (damn..I'm giving up the good info). If you have at least seventy two hours advance warning it is worth the attempt to leave. If it is less than seventy-two hours the best solution is the sit tight for a minimum of seven days before attempting the trek outside of the city. If you are unable to leave after week two and there is no attempt aid relief your pretty much going to be fucked in the urban core anyway and most medium and small towns will most likely not let you enter or pass anyway. Every city dweller should have at least fourteen days of supplies needed to survive the average disaster scenerio.
P.S. We got a big lake that bypasses all the roads.

Look moving as light as possible is a good idea. But you have to have more to make than the clothes on your back. You have to bring the basics to live in the woods for a while.
I weapon is a must. You get to your hold up place and them sit tight. IF you run into problems you may have to shoot you way out. Look at N.O. after the Katrina. People were forced to defend themselves. The LA riots. THe korean store owners?
Yes, your best action is to move quickly and drawning as little attention as possible but what happens if you run into the group of homeboys, rednecks, gangbanger, assholes who are like fuck it we are taking anything that we want and we want your shit? What happens if they come to your home? Were you and your family are holding up? The fact is its happend in the past and it will happen again. You need a GUN. Even if you just use it to make them duck their heads long enough for you to break contact and get away.
Im sure some of my ex military friends here can tell you about conduction a break contact drill And how when your operating in a small group its the best option when your moving in enemy controled areas.

I understand that, I just figured it wouldn't be till everything "settled down", so to speak, that society as a whole would fall apart. Until then I figure everyone is gonna be running so hard in every direction they won't have time to kill each other. I'd hope to be long gone by then, out in the woods, or preferably on some island. That makes me wonder, so would have to make a still to get drinking water from salt water right?

If it ever came down to pure and utter chaos, I would do what I have always wanted to do. Acknowledge there is nothing I can do and it is out of my control, and then go completely wild in activities I never get to participate in.
Grand theft auto
Breaking and entering every building in NYC
Stealing all the best food from the grocery store
Experimenting with arson
Steal my best friends record collection
Steal the Crocodile Cafes (in Seattle) sound system
Attempt a 180 degree turn while driving over 60 miles and hour.
Acquire an M1 Garand
Hunting stray dogs in Manhattan with my newly acquired 30-06
The REAL hard drugs.
Pretty much I would try and break into the nicest place I can find, and just chill there as long as possible while collecting supplies for free and living it up in the meantime.
Or maybe an actual REAL good idea would be to steal a house boat or cruise ship or something.

I know this thread is all "Haha and hehe" And joking over this thread is just fun and games. But what would really happen if goverment and private services failed due to a natural or man made disaster? IE Lights, Water, Phones stopped working. What about the food supply? What if the Kroger, A&P, or local markets couldnt get shipments? Would you be prepared for a break down that could happen and most likely would happen? Things like Katrina and the LA Riots should show us that certain aspects of our population will take advanatage of disasters for their own gain and victimize anyone they can.
Just a though.

I think I was lucky. My grand parents grew up on farms in Maine. Winter storms still kill the stupid and the unprepared. The ocean still kills people, as do the mountains. Makes you learn how to live. When I lived there I stick framed houses, and worked pulling traps and cooked.
In my family we still keep a generator handy, just in case. People think I take it too seriously, but I don't think that many people realize how thin a veneer civilization really is.

Yeah, that's pretty much where we are coming from. In 1918 a pandemic killed a bucket load of folks, at least 50 million worldwide. Record keeping was spotty, up to 100 million could be correct. Let's say H5N1 (bird flu) makes the leap to an airborne virus. Considering the level of international travel, 100 million would be peanuts comparatively. China covered up the SARS problems for weeks before the rest of the planet knew what was happening. First response would be a non-issue since there is no way to truly prepare for an outbreak. This will happen. Not if, just when.
Think what this level of sickness and death would affect even the simple things like food being delivered to market. Financial markets would come to a dead stop. Money would not be worth shit, no matter who''s currency.
You fuckheads talking about killing your neighbors and taking shit are disgusting. Kidding or not, I bet a good bit of you would do just that, instead of being smart and working with your own communities to survive.
