So...this is the second time this happened.
Im sitting at work, doing fuck all (as usual) and this hot chick with some homo ask to speak to me in private. We go to the boardroom and they blah blah blah blah...in the end they were cops investigating a crime and asked me for my DNA sample. Just like in CSI series...the swab. Man she was hot... And of course for the 2nd time I've asked to have a signed copy of a paper saying that my DNA cannot be used for any other investiagtions and it will be destroyed once I am eliminated as a suspect in this one.
Questions...
1. Anyone know how long before the piggies get the results back?
2. Has anyone or know anyone that refused giving a sample? Can you be charged/forced to provide one?
3. If refusing to give a sample or not being asked for one, can piggies still collect one by picking up a cigarette butt like in the movies? Do they need a warrant from a judge first?

And for all of you that hope I go away for life...ha! maybe next time...or you can visit me in Mexico. :wink:

There's been a change in laws over here a few years back: if you're convicted of a crime that has a possible punishment of 4 years or more of incarciration, you have to give the cops a sample. The samples are destroyed after 16 (!) years.
So, now they have mine. Not that I'm planning on raping someone or something, but I do have the fealing I need to re-think some actions 3 times... Well, maybe that's their whole point, haha.

I did this last year....it cost $100 us and you supply a DNA sample of yourself or a family member and they will show you based on your DNA the migratory pattern of your ancestors and what ethnic, geographic groups are in your history. You all kinds of maps and shit...its pretty cool!

And how specific is it? I assume you get stuff like: you're 85% Celtic origin, 10% Germanic and 5% Mediterranean?

The results will come back depending on how hot the case is. Typically anywhere from 72-hours to 30-Days. #4. You can refuse to give a DNA sample and unlike CSI if one is taken without a warrant or your permission it will be eventually ruled inadmissable, "eventually" is the keyword on that one. On caveat, if you are currently incarcerated or being held your DNA is most likely considered fair game no matter where they get it from. #5. Yes you can refuse to give one...you can refuse to do anything you want...see above. :rolleyes: Under a court order you can be forced to provide one and yes they can get it from your cup.

Lastly, I can't speak to what you signed about your DNA being destroyed but if the letter was not produced by your lawyer (key being "your") you can pretty much guarantee that your DNA willnot be destroyed.

Basically they send you a DVD and a couple swab kits to take DNA with. Depending if you want to test your Maternal or Paternal line you take DNA from yourself or your parents. What you get back is specific info about what haplo group and sub group you belong to and the origins of that group and where it can be found today. You get maps showing your DNA migratory patterns and where your specific group branched off and moved to cause that group of people to be where they are now.

You can also then go online and watch a video of some scientist dude explain you results and simplify it to specific ethnic and geographic groups. Its definatly worth the money if your someone that likes that kind of shit and is interested in your history.

You would only get a sample from your parents if you wanted to know the line opposite to your gender...I.E your a dude so your DNA could be tested to find your mothers-mothers line or your fathers-fathers line.....if you wanted to test the other two lines you would take DNA from a sibling of your parent that was the opposite sex.

What kind of work do you do? Are you a part-time Rapist at night? You don't voluntarily give up anything without some kind of court ordered document. They could frame you at anytime and put your dna all over everything, as for the paper you signed that could quickly disappear. Don't you watch tv?

Well...since my alibi is pretty good at the time the offence was comitted they have fuck all on me...even if they did frame DNA evidence, that alone is not enough proof when survielence videos and dozens of witnesses confirm otherwise. I had to get that paper to eliminate me...because I know it wasnt me and didnt want them to store the sample and use if in the future.

See...I thought that I did have to get it signed by my lawyer...but its a legal piece of paper with their and mine signatures. After the first time I requested such letter...I confirmed with a lawyer and he told me that its perfectly good and can be used in court in case they ever compared my DNA to another crime and matched it.
If I was to deny giving them a sample, they could have bothered me for months, legal and all types of shit...and knowing it wasnt me, I had nothing to lose.
Framing didnt even cross my mind...everything else would contradict itself even if they did.

anyway, what red said was bang on. you have the "right" to refuse to give a sample, but if the cops wanted to they could make you a suspect based on the fact that you refused.. then they get a court order demanding one and can collect it in any way they choose.. on the off chance that they actually think it's worth their time.

the rcmp has a dna database but it is only used (ehm, officially) for violent offenders and sex criminals.. but the cops have been constantly lobbying, for as long as dna evidence has been around, for the ability to collect dna for a person convicted of ANY crime.. as is already the case in a number of european countries. hell, in some places no conviction, but only a charge is necessary.

Exactly my reasons for giving it in the first place. Providing that once eliminated, the sample gets destroyed. And having this piece of paper can help me out in case they decide not to destroy the sample and use it to nail me in the future. They can try to pin all kinds of shit on me right now but they'll come up empty handed.
