....Is fuckin awesome, go see it right away. It expands on the original story and has alot of really cool characters and the visuals are out of this world....And I am sure that all the talk of Odin and Ragnarök is bound to give some of you huge boners.

it was ok.. the special effects were nice, although the dialogue was a bit campy at a couple of spots. and it generally wasn't.. satisfying. it was still worth the extra $ to see it in 3D though.

I wonder if they'll have it in 3D over here... Imax would be a good second option, I think.

i think it looks like a cool movie and i want to see it
and now for somthing completely different:
i think the mist would be sweet in 3d if they could some how incorperate the fog into it some how ive never been to an imax 3d so i dont know how much stuff they can do with those

that would flow well considering parts of the original scripture are missing. what are they going to do just pull a monty python and have random swirling colors?

Same in BC, at least in my school. Mind, that was more than 20 years ago...

I read a big part of it in English class.
Not sure how much it was edited, updated (new language) or whatever.

I read it of my own free will. It wasn't required reading in my highschool anyway.

I had an entire college class of it, in Old English....
Read it a couple two three times.(including in highschool at the damn Catholic Schools it was required...)! Read Grendel, by John Gardner.

We read other things like the canterbury tales by that crazy chaucer bastard and some other ridiculous crap that made me want to gouge out my eyes. Actually we did a lot of classic American literature. Not too much on the foreign stuff.
And it actually was a very good highschool thanky.. in the top 10 for my state.

We had to read Of Mice and Men in freshman year. I never understood why we had to read that. It was pretty goddamn simplistic. I think my favorite school required reading book was probably Lord of the Flies.

It was better than Catcher in the Rye(not by much..)! Heh, all's you have to do is watch half of the old Looney Tunes cartoon and they quote half of, 'Of Mice and Men' in many cartoons...

Read Beowulf a few times - though not at school.
Got to agree, out of all the required reading that is a book I still go back to. A classic.

I hated Of Mice and Men (although I do like some of Steinbeck's other books) and I really, really hated Catcher in the Rye. I felt quite ripped off when I read it ... some big classic. Pffffft.

Grendel is a wicked novel. Hail for that! His writing reminds me a lot of Faulkner for some reason.

Beowulf is one of the few pieces I can read repeatedly. It was pulled from my school's curriculum a long time ago for some reason. Does anyone else recall this happening?

My pop used to read it to me when I was a kid. All I remembered was the "and grendel crawled into his cave to die" anticlimactic part

Beowulf is one of my favorite stories, and although I'm sure this movie isn't going to do it justice, it's the first time I've heard of a film actually including the full story.

Yeah, thats a bit creepy. I can see them at the dinner table having a serious discussion about tommorrows "battle". And saying stuff like,"Its my destiny!"
They kind of remind me of the all those hardcore civil war reanactors. Only alot less smart.

Me too. I think I was 13 or so when I read it, and loved it from the start.
