My ant idea is that it would take 1004 generations and a foam cup for your decendants to reach China.

Don't let her go to Korea unless you want her to look out at the playground and see pervs jacking off to little kids.

if i had to choose personaly id go to japan.

just seems like the safest place out of the three. seeing as how china puts lead in our toys.

id personaly just stay the hell away from south korea seeing as how its neighbors with kim jong il.

commies and out weigh the yakuza or stupid anime imo

i was in south korea for a year and japan for 3 years and enjoyed both places. i would think money would be better in japan though. but in all honesty both have great people to meet.

I would choose Japan because they don't eat stinky kim-chi.

Guess again - not as much as in Korea, but we sure do. If you doubt me, take a morning rush hour train and smell the goodness on the guys that were out all night and haven't hit the showers yet.

South Korea or Japan will be better monetarily. The big trick is that you're going to need to get married in order for you to obtain a visa to go with her, at least in Japan. If you've ever tended bar, brush up on those skills, there are countless Irish pubs in Japan these days and you'd be able to tend bar until you picked up something more to your liking. Presumably there are similar bars in some parts of Korea - Acari?

China is more like Japan was when I cam here in the early 90's - foreigners are still a relative rarity and so you can expect a lot of interesting treatment, both good and bad. Definitely more of an adventure there.

If her heart is set on China, I have friends living in Beijing who can help you get oriented, if you come to Japan, I'll do what I can, and I'm sure Acari would step up in Korea.

Korea is the best one to make money. Some people can do it and some people freak out. Foreigners aren't really allowed to participate in certain things, such as owning businesses or property, and it would be very hard to get a non-teaching job, even in a bar, although not impossible. There are quite a few places you could try. Oh yeah, and you wouldn't need to get married to come here. If you're an American, or I think British, just go on vacation every three months (but stay tuned because the visa renewal process might be getting beefed up). Also, the foreigner scene in this country sucks massively. But they make great punching bags. That said, great foreign punk crowd, and the entire punk scene is small enough that you'll be legendary after only a couple weekends out. The one big drawback is nobody back home will really care about any of your experiences in Korea, no matter how crazy or fun or legendary they are. Oh yeah: only live in Seoul. Everywhere else sucks.

Japan is the one where you'll most likely have the most culturally fulfilling experience, as pretty well everyone goes to Japan at some point in their lives. But I find it a little more dehumanising being there for some reason. For one thing, the Coke in Japan tastes like soy sauce. I couldn't handle it because I drink a lot of Coke. Also, I think the punk scene there is big enough that they've seen everything, so you're going to have a smaller influence on them.

If you go to China, only go to Beijing. I really, really can't vouch for the skinhead scene over there--lots of young kids who aren't very hospitable to visitors. They do get tons of touring acts, almost on par with Tokyo. However, in China you'll be treated like a walking wallet by all the locals. Expect to get a lot of old women with wooden ducks shouting "You buy this!" Anyone selling anything is dishonest, although even with the ripoff added what you're buying is still going to be cheaper than in Korea or Japan.

By the way, I'd say South Korea is the safest of the three. Japanese cops scare me and the Chinese government scares me. Korean cops are straight out of Trailer Park Boys, easy to manipulate. If North Korea ever attacks, Japan will get the worst of it.

Hehehe - the cops here aren't that scary, it's just that nasty little "hold you for 28 days without formal charges" thing that's scary.

As far as NK - I figure the safest place to be is wherever they aim those missiles.

Who would that be? Anyone I've met already, or anyone interested in seeing a few shows?

If you're in Atlanta, is it Adam? He's stuck way the fuck down south.

Ouch, sucks to be him. There's a lot of cool foreigners down in Busan but if they want something decent to do they have to come all the way up to Seoul.

I like Korea...to visit.

If you go to Seoul, try to avoid crossing streets or getting too close to the street.

As for everywhere else in KR, the countryside is beautiful as long as you don't need to go to the bathroom. =)

It might be alright if you're not into punk music.

I dont think Bryan went there for the punk music scene...IM fairly sure it had to do with his job as a teacher. Btw bryan is 37 and grew up in the Atlanta Oi and Punk music scene but those are stories for him to tell. Anyway, if you run into him he's good people.

As for Korea I lived in there for two years as a kid. I remember 3 things really well. 1) We lived on a hill on a Army base. 2) I loved Summer Kimchi 3) We crash landed in a Helicopter in a rice paddy.

Yeah, not many people come to Korea to be serious teachers. For some reason Busan always attracts a lot of hipsters who then contact me asking where they can go for shows or events.

By the way, Swifty, if you do move to China, remember what I said: move to Beijing. It's not as nice as Seoul or Tokyo but it's not nearly as ass-backwards as the rest of the country (not counting Hong Kong and Shanghai of course).

Careful about misjudging that one - they have plenty of electricity...

it's all black because they require the citizenry to use blackout curtains in case of bombing runs from the south.

Instilling paranoia...

Yeah, and they have a lot of food too. They're just accepting all that foreign aid because they're secretly at war with Ethiopia and figure if they take all the food the Ethiopians will starve.
