There was a thread like this but I'm horrible at navigating the internet and can't find it.
I just started work at a retail bookstore and I get to order whatever books I want and get huge discounts. I found a book in our warehouse catalog called something like "Carribean Music Encyclopedia: From Ska, to Rock Steady, to Mento" that looks decent, does anyone know if it's worth ordering?

My books on the scene:
Skinhead by Nick Knight
Cropped Heads by Estrellea & Xose
Nazi Rock Star by Paul London
White Noise in English and German
Still looking for some other titles, like White Riot about C18.
White Noise? the Searchlight propaganda booklet? that thing is a piece of shit.... lies and myths from a pro-Israeli, MI6 and Special Branch collaborating organisation.... fuck Searchlight....

get a copy of the rough guide to reggae. i have volume 1 and cant see any difference between that and volumes 2-3. pretty cheap and it even has a section on skinhead reggae. albeit small, but they have one nonetheless.
our band could be your life: scenes from the american indie underground 1981-1991
american hardcore: a tribal history
the subcultures reader 1e pback
trojan published young, gifted and black the history of trojan records and another book on british reggae. both are great and i got both on amazon for under 5 bucks each!!!!
those shouldnt be hard to find.
boss sounds has been out of print since 96......i think. but its essential if you only wanna know about skinhead reggae. its a bitch trying to find it though
someone put out an a-z of underground music a few years ago. i dont remember the title but the cover is pink.
i studied subcultures during college. feel free to ask me anything. i can at least steer you in a good direction.

What are you a homo?
Here you go any John Grisham book just replace the main characters with skinheads, rudies, etc.
It also works well with Stephen King, Anne Rice, Shel Silversteen, and Roald Dahl.

Where’s the signing gonna be? I might just go to that. Curious, did Sab Grey grow up in Baltimore, or does he just live there now? Because theres an IC song that goes something like “DC skinheads have their say”. I always thought he was from DC.
EDIT: Acording to Wikipedia, he was born in Baltimore.

Well, if your singing about DC, than I'm going to assume your from DC, I'm not going to think "Oh, this song is called "Wasted in DC" BUT since Baltimore is so close you must actually be from there.

I am not from there. Although I know plenty of people who have lived in Baltimore, moved to DC, and moved back, who remain employed, or otherwise connected to DC. I have family all over the area, and, just as a point of conversation... They are really close together for major cities. So it wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination to think, that someone could be born in Baltimore and either move to DC, or drive the 42 miles, to take part in the scene, and move back...
Just saying.
Edit: We are also talking about a song that is twenty years old.

"Wasted in DC" only came out a few years ago. Unless your talking about the other song, which I believe is "Psycho Skin", not sure though.

I dont know where he was born or whatever..but IC was the DC scene when shit started...when they reformed or whatever, not too long ago, he claimed B-more because that was where he is living now.
The book signing is at the Pug on Dec 1st at 9:00pm...gotta be 21.

The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Hell's Angels by the good Dr. Hunter S Thompson is still the greatest subculture book I have ever read. He's my favorite author though, so I may be a little biased, but its still a damn good read even if you didn't like his Fear and Loathing trippy shit.

I didn't know this topic was still around. I got canned from that job since I got evicted, then my car quit working, but I was able to pick up a couple of books on reggae and "Skinhead" by Mark Knight before I left. The latter isn't very good, mostly just pictures and fashion descriptions. I haven't looked over the reggae books much, but they seem alright.
