hey we all used to "bang your head" at some point..

Confirmed: QUIET RIOT Singer KEVIN DUBROW Dead At 52 - Nov. 26, 2007

QUIET RIOT drummer Frankie Banali has confirmed the passing of the group's singer, Kevin DuBrow, at the age of 52. In an e-mail to Spain's The Metal Circus, which had requested a comment from Banali on the rumors of DuBrow's death, the drummer wrote, "Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend Kevin DuBrow."

Michael Politz of The Vegas Eye reported earlier today that DuBrow was found dead in his Las Vegas home on Sunday, November 25. According to Politz, DubRow — whom Politz calls "one of my closest friends" — recently celebrated his 52nd birthday in New Orleans "where he ate great food and even caught THE CULT at The House of Blues."

Although the band has yet to issue an official statement on the matter, bassist Kelly Garni, who was one of the founding members of QUIET RIOT, has posted the following message on the Randy Rhoads (late QUIET RIOT/OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist) web site RandyRhoads.tk:

"I ask this to all of you not only for myself but for other friends and family. I ask that no one here offer any speculation or opinions, theories or other things that could be construed as negative or, and I'm sorry for this, even sympathetic, right at this immediate time. I am already within hours of this having to deal with untrue rumors and speculation and that only adds fuel to that. There is a tendency for the subject of Kevin to incite flames on every board and now is not the time for that. I will explain to everyone here the facts and the truth in the next 24 to 48 hours as I realize this will effect us all. So please, until then, be patient. All details and other pertinate info will be passed on to you here when it becomes available to me. Thank you."

In 2004, DuBrow recorded a collection of cover versions for his first solo album, "In for the Kill".

QUIET RIOT's latest studio CD, "Rehab", was released on October 3, 2006. The lineup on the album was Kevin DuBrow, Frankie Banali, Tony Franklin and Neil Citron. Legendary singer Glenn Hughes also made a guest vocal appearance on the LP.

Quiet Riot found fame through a Slade cover. Their subsequence songs ripped off Slade's sound left and right.

Cum On Feel the Noize and Mama Weer All Crazee Now were both Slade tunes that Quiet Riot covered. The only original tune of theirs that ever went anywhere was Metal Health, though personally I kinda liked Slick Black Cadillac (it's actually still in my heavy rotation MP3 list...)

I have a soft spot for QR... Kevin Dubrow may have been an irritating unoriginal asshole, but the man knew how to rock.

This is so ironic, I was thinking about "Slick Black Cadillac" at work today, and then I find out Kevin Dubrow is dead.

Lots of bands do cover songs, and if they do it well, people enjoy them. Big deal.

Yeah, however, I think with Quiet Riot, they copied a whole sound and marketed it as their own... Their early mtv interviews make it seem like they thought they were something new and original, when they were a glorified cover-band.

Although, I should say, the Randy Rhodes records are a little more interesting.

Edit: It should also be noted that my first post was a sarcastic comment... and then the second one explained confusion of said fail sarcasm.

I might have to sell my copy of Metal Health on ebay. It should be worth at least .35 cents now.

QR was the death knell of the true metal scene (or the savior). Anyway, they're who brought hair metal bands to the eighties. God saved Manowar, Slayer, Anthrax, Raven, etc.

That might be undercutting Van Hallen (not van hagar) a bit.

Sigh... Sammy Hagar is just fine when he gets away from the Van Halen brothers. He's a tequila lovin' , big engine revvin', rock'n'rollin' fool.

Edward Van Halen is a prima donna who needed an asskicking of epic proportions about 22 years ago and never got it.

I am all for the Red Rocker, just not Van Hagar... or Van Hallen for that matter.

I'd consider that a different category. Anyway, the Knack got signed after VH, which kinda left a clean slate between them and the glam/metal scene there.
Put it this way, QR did for metal what Green Day did for punk.

Yeah, Sammy did a project with Neal Schon right before he joined VH. Great stuff that should have went somewhere.

Read any interview with an early LA glam band and they will say they started the band after seeing Van Halen at places like the Stanwood or the Whiskey, or the Forum.

And, btw, Motley Crue released their first record before Quiet Riot (second version aka Dubrow) began making a scene, and their second at the same time as Metal Health. just to through a wrentch in their.

You're right, Crue was before them. But, QR was the band that got the jocks, preppies, etc. listening to that kind of music when they had been listening to the likes of Culture Club, Duran Duran, and everything that reeked of what goes along with that.
Maybe it's just sour grapes, but there were some pretty cool bands, such as RIOT, EXCITER, OBSESSION, RAVEN, etc. in the early '80s that I always thought should have made it before the genre got corporately hi-jacked. QR pioneered the sellout, in my humble opinion.

Actually, the band themselves had no interested in covering Cum On Feel The Noize. It was a record company idea and was not supported by the group in the slightest. So, I dont think the groups intent was to "rip off" Slade at all. Record executives know they have more of a chance getting a hit with a cover song that was previously a hit already. And this was the fuel behind their doing this cover. As was them doing "Mama were all crazy now" on their follow up. Wow! I'm really ashamed that I know that bit of trivia
