Any of you people into newsgroups? For the people that don't know it and still fuck around with torrents, kazaa and other slow sharing software... newsgroups are your solution.
Read this:
http://www.binaries4all.com/
I download (between 650 - 750 kb/ps):
dvd's in 1,5 hour
divx movies between 20 and 30 minutes
cd's in about 3 minutes
It's really worth the time.
For the people that DO use this or are going to, I just uploaded Skinheads (german documentary) and found a very good documentary about English hooligans at the last World Cup. I'm also going to upload Skinhead Attitude and World of Skinhead. If you want any of this, PM me or post it in this topic.

Haha, same here. I checked out that website but it still didn't make much sense. Too complicated a system to snatch a couple songs or a movie or whatever.

To bad, it isn't very diffrent from torrents. When you've configured your stuff you only have to download a small file (like a torrent) and you wait till the download is finished. The only thing you need to find out is the server your ISP uses for newsgroups. Configuring your newsleecher (the software you download with, like Azureus for bit torrent) goes step by step if you follow the guide on the website I gave ya. It's all on there and it's about 45 minutes of work.

OK, i tried GrabIt (chose it before i saw your post) and have been going through the instructions and configuring it.............i was offered the server 'news'. I chose a group and I am downloading the headers............its taking over an hour, im only hitting a max of around 100 KB/s. Is there no better way to search for a files, say theres a film i want to download, do i have to guess a group, download all its headers then hope they have it? Am i missing something here?
Isn't XS4all an ISP............i was after the software for downloading from groups.

What ISP do you have?
I have XS4All and get around 600KB a second.

I just chose the default one that was offered.....'news.' OK, i tried adding XS4all to my list but seem to be unable to connect. In 'server properties' i used the 'profilename' XS4all and also put the website addy for XS4all as the host name. No cennection. Fuckit, i am going to play around with this a bit more before i start asking dumb questions

You need to go and look up your own ISP newsserver. You can find it in the link Boothead gave.
If your ISP is nice, like mine, you can really go at it!

Well, when i install my newsreader software, i get the option to type in the name of my Internet News provider..........it is offering one called 'news.' I couldn't find anything in Bootheads link to find out what my NNTP is, i am guessing that 'news' is my ISP newsserver.

i'd be to frustratted by then
Fkn still only getting around 150KB/s. And its frustrating as hell trying to find something worth downloading, i.e. finding a decent newsgroup, downloading all the headers, then finding fuck all worth having.

What's your ISP and I'll look it up for you.

Torrents are a way of P2P sharing. They are more or less shortcuts to certain files.
What's your ISP and I'll look it up for you.
Cheers mate - its Chello.

Sorry man, but you'll probably have to get a payserver for that one... :(
Try: news.chello.nl
Also, check here: http://binaries4all.nl/serveradressen/chello.php

Nah, its not happening with any of those. I think I have the right one already, but there seems to be fuck all complete/worth downloading in any of the newsgroups. Jammer.

The best news servers you have to pay for - and mozilla has a great news reader in Thunderbird that's free - i use it for mail and newsgroups (which I don't use that often).

Well if you want you could use Eweka, it's a payserver and it's about 7,50 per month (8,50 if yoou want to use it right away). You'll have acces to all the newsgroups there are.
Newsleecher is way better than Grabit and has it's own search function (believe me, it's better than grabit). You need to pay for it if you want to use the function, but hey, there other ways if you know what I mean. If you want to know, PM me.
Chello is know as very bad in the Netherland, you should get XS4all, great service, a bit more expensive but it's definately worth it's money.

Oh hell ya! It's fast too - I use to work for netscape and support it back then, before mozilla split off - so it's actually in the netscape news reader as well as the Thunderbird.

Maybe you can hook the Doc up with some info on that?

The closest ive gotten to newsgroups is downloading torrents that turn out to be rar'd and i use "NewzToolz" to unrar them into cue/bin files.
