Who will take it in the semis?

I for one think Serra will win it all.

I'm with you. Serra wants too badly to kick Shonie's ass to get tagged by a lucky shot again. And I, for one, want to see it happen.

Silva smashed the hell outta Franklin with knees so bad that while i was watching I said "wow, his knees are gonna be sore tomorrow." Silva smashed his nose to the side of Franklins face and continued to pound him on his feet. Franklin went down and the ref stopped it. It was a really fast fight, I was actually suprised by how dominating Silva was... kinda.

edit- Here's the beating

It always makes me laugh when mma guys call a clinch a thai clinch.

Yeah i just saw it on YouTube...that was fuckin crazy. Franklin took like 20 knees to the face. Im glad to finally see a fight end standing. Im so fucking sick of people going to the ground and wasting like 3 minutes just laying there. They need to really change their stand up rules because its fucking boring.

They need to ban Sean Sherk from the UFC.

They need to ban Sean Sherk from the UFC.Seriously, its a new trend for people who have no skills in ground work to just randomly take someone else to the ground who has no idea what they are doing either. I was watching a replay of TUF the other night and it was that black dude Dean and uhm...Lytle i think...i dont remember...they spent 3 rounds on the ground and NOTHING...it was fucking weak.

UFC is a joke compared to what goes on in Japan and Brazil. Silva just proved this. UFC is a freak show and they need to start having 2 on 1's to keep it entertainig. Pretty soon fighters are gonna run out of enough blood to satisfy the dumbfuck mma fans of North America.

Well, when someone's evenly matched in a grappling contest, it -is- like a chess match. Fun to play but boring to watch. Grappling can get boring, especially if it's a wrestler constantly trying to get position and ignoring real offense. There ARE a lot of blankets in MMA but for the most part I think you have to have a real keen interest in grappling to appreciate some fighters.

It's not the format, it's the fighters and the presentation. UFC is turning into WWF. The fighters are all good but the best of the best aren't there. Also, too many wrestlers and bad matchups. You have to wait so long to see the best guys fight eachother when in Pride they give the fights to you in the blink of an eye. Fedor and Cro cop are already gonna be fighting again, that's unheard of in the ufc. Oh sorry guys, I forgot about Tito vs. Ken (rolls eyes).

I don't think it's boring at all when you understand what's happening, but the fact that an awesome grappler will get on top of a dangerous striker is what will make it boring. The grappler will do whatever he can to keep the striker on the ground even if he has to make it boring, he's there to win, not to entertain bloodthirsty fans by getting his head kicked in.

dana realized he can pay shit for 6 fights from the reality show on a PPV on an 8 fight card instead of having to pay decent fighters bigger money, and the PPV buys will still be big because of the mainstream draw of the reality show watchers. UFC will continue to blow with 1 good fight every 2 or 3 PPVs.

beating? i don't think either of them took a decent punch the whole fight. keep saku from submitting you...he's supposed to be the all powerful royce, and all he can do is stall for almost 2 fucking hours. christ on a crutch, worst fight since pride 1.

Yeah, it sucks if you judge fights by entertainment value. Of course you're not going to like a fight that long with little action. But Royce doesn't go out there to entertain people, he goes out there to protect himself and that's why I like Gracie Jiujitsu. The fact neither of them took a hard punch the whole fight isn't a reason for me to hate the fight. It's more interesting to me to see how they kept from being hit. Avoiding punches is pretty fun if you can do it.

i understand what you're saying and that would be ok if that's how it went but that's not what happened. there was no ground battles, there was hardly an effort on either guy to try and end the fight. it was alot of boring clinches, holding and stalling.

That's true, it was like they were both afraid of making a mistake.

On another note Gracie Jiu jitsu is great and all but it's definitely overated. Nobody ever talks about Kimura nad he broke Helio's arm. Nobody ever talks about judo, that's why I'm a big fan of Pawel Nastula and Karo Parisian.

Well, they did rename the hold after Kimura. People confuse Gracie Jiujitsu with sport Jiujitsu, I think. In my opinion the real Gracie Jiujitsu is vale tudo, that's how they used to test it against all those dudes from Mcdojos.

And I think Saku vs Royce was more of a fight between a catch wrestler and a BJJ stylist, and speaking of Judo I'm reminded of Ad Santel, another old timey wrestler worthy of a lot of respect.

From wiki:

"Ad Santel was credited to have fought first the major clash-of-the-styles match in modern martial arts history, against Tokugoro Ito, a 5th degree black belt in Judo from Japan.
The match in 1914 was one between two prime representatives of their respective crafts, Ad Santel was the World Light Heavyweight Champion in Catch Wrestling while Tokugoro Ito claimed to be the World Judo Champion.

Santel defeated Ito and went on to be the self proclaimed World Judo Champion. The response from Jigoro Kano (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jigoro_Kano)'s Kodokan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodokan) was swift and came in the form of another challenger, 4th degree black belt Daisuke Sakai. Santel, however, still defeated the Kodokan Judo representative.

The challenge matches stopped after Santel, yet to taste defeat at the hands of any Kodokan representative, willingly gave up on the claim of being the World Judo Champion in 1921 in order to pursue a career in full time professional wrestling."

Anyways, losing respect to Royce over THAT of all fights is fucking ridiculous. If you want to be entertained, watch Total Recall, not Saku vs Royce. It's a two hour fight, you must have known it before seeing it LWS, did you expect two hours of sweeps and reversals?

Royce Gracie's jiu-jitsu isn't anywhere near the top of the food chain. Guys like B.J. Penn, Ricardo Arona, Marcelo Garcia, Leo Viera, Ronaldo Jacare, and Roger Gracie would eat Royce's jiu-jitsu for breakfast.

I think people just assume he is a total badass at jiu-jitsu because they watch the old UFC's where no one knew any jiu-jitsu at all.

Another good match between a Catch wrestler and a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stylist is Masakatsu Funaki (who was trained by Yoshiaki Fujiwara (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoshiaki_Fujiwara) who was trained by Karl Gotch) versus Rickson Gracie.
