Does this look like a bad buy? I'm thinking of buying one...

how are you going to keep shit sterile. if the kit included an autoclave it might be worth it.

An autoclave? For that price?

Tattoo artist don't buy kits. They trade or build their equipment. Anything in a kit when it comes to tattoo's isn't something anyone who is going to be putting out good ink is gonna use.

I've typed out my rants about people buying kits and just hopping into tattooing before.
Here's an honest, non-ranty opinion.
1) If you can't tell that what's in that kit is the right stuff or not, then you have no business buying it.
2) See #1.
3) The equipment from that company is repackaged/rebranded crap from a couple of other companies - namely Superior Tattoo and Spaulding Tattoo Supplies.
4) See #1.
5) You either need to buy quality gear, or know how to tweak crappy gear into quality gear.
6) See #1.
7) Any place that sells quality gear won't sell to you unless you are a known tattooist, referred to them by a known tattooist, or you can provide proof that you are a professional tattooist (in the form of photos of your studio space, serial numbers from autoclaves, etc.)
8) See #1.
Oh, and honestly - that kit hasn't got enough stuff to even do ONE decent tattoo. Great way to move all your dead stock of 3 liners though. All in all, the kit itself is worth MAYBE 100 euros. If they include shipping and have it delivered by a stripper in a microbikini.

my point was extremely sarcastic. you might as well just buy some india ink and get going with the jailhouse crap. it just strikes me as a great way to get hepititus.

cool, I want a "Drity White Boy" tattoo. I don't know what is stupider, home made tattoos or home made tattoo removal. I have witnessed both and still laugh about the removal. dremel tools are wonderful things.

I know what all the stuff does i just don't know the proper names for it, but #3 convinced me... I'll just visit my tattoist to get my own gear then. Thanks for the reply, Hoon

you're gonna go ask a guy who makes a living tattooing to get you some "gear"? shit, you must be retarded.
ok, now that that's out....
you need to do an apprenticeship. seriously. like any trade, you need to learn from an experienced artist. once you know what you're doing, you'll no longer want one of those shitty ass kits and you'll most likely build your own custom machines. don't sell yourself short, you'll look stupid in the end.

If you're that determined, find a GOOD artist, and try to get an apprenticeship.

If you're seriously gonna do it anyway, use only red for a while. No black, no green. In a couple of years you'll know why.

So no kitchen tattooing for me? That was the whole idea though, but i'll talk to my artists and we'll figure something out.

Hmm... because it'll fall out and then i'll learn that red needs to be put in several times? I wasn't thinking of doing colourwork, just black...

listen to Hoon and Oz here. they ain't just blowing smoke. get an apprenticeship from a good artist. failing that(thick skulled determanation), practice with red for awhile. red has a tendency to fade in alot of people and can be easily covered if needed. and make sure everything is STERILE. don't be a dumbass and spread shit around to friends OR strangers.

partly that, partly the fact that red is heaps easier to cover when you work out what you're doing. honestly. I don't give a shit how well you can draw, you will not bang out a perfect tatt first time. not tenth time. practice things you can cover...
i learnt this the hard way. I haven't got those 'worst tatt' photos up yet, but it will all make sense...

And if you're too thick skulled for that, at least get some fake skin to practice on...

yeah very important that... get an autoclave at auction. they exist and won't set you back the mint a new one will cost. make sure you're getting something that's been upgraded and traded in by a dentist or something, and they're generally good, even if huge and heavy.
failing that: bleach, pressure cooker at max pressure for at least 40 mins, bleach again, surgical spirits, and hybitane (sp?).
yes, Hoon, I can feel the disapproval, but he's gonna do it anyway...

I know, some people are stupid like that.
Anyway, a good pressure cooker at max pressure for 40 is sufficient - just make sure you have a rack in there to keep everything off the bottom, and line the top with a paper towel to soak up the drips during cooling.
I spore tested a few of them - they were all medically acceptable.
The risk of using one of those is the lack of automation and temperature control. It's too easy to take sutff out too early, or not keep an eye on them the entire time to make sure everything is staying where it should, or to overdo it and blow the pressure release valve (back to square one).
If you're going to use a pressure cooker, it has to be one with a temp guage.150 degrees centigrade or better, 40 minutes or longer... and that's 40 minutes from the time you reach max pressure. and keep an eye on the damned thing so that you maintain the pressure withouth blowing the gauge.
And at least buy some fucking autoclave bags to store the stuff - it's only sterile until it gets exposed to air, then it's contaminated again.

I think the whole problem would be solved if he just apprenticed under the magic eye of chris crinkle.
