Not really.

Usually you can only go so far with just an email address.
If you have an email from them you get an originating IP in the header, maybe some other useful info about their host and stuff.

Google is usually about the best option.

ya, most people don't use real names when setting up email accounts...other than originating IP like Loathe said - it's a dead end. Even with that, it's not 100%

You can try running the email thru various social networking sites and see what it pulls up. I've also noted people tend to stick to using the same "names/handles" over and over again when signing up for different email providers. Try keeping the handle the same but changing the host name such as - @gmail.com/hotmail.com/yahoo.com/ etc etc.
