so i'll be purchasing an external hard drive later today, and i had a few questions...
can i set up something on my computer so it automatically does it once a day?
i was thinking about keeping all of my music on there, as to clear up room on my computer, is that wise?
any recommendations on externals that you use or have used?

Yes, there are many ways to setup daily backups - and some of the USB drives that are sold for backups even come with easy to use software for backing shit up. Look into incremental backups.
I also think it's VERY SMART to put your music on an external drive - I like to have a dvd/cd copy of most of my shit too just in case - but an external is a good idea - that way if your computer takes a shit - you can still get your mp3's and important files from any computer.

Look at you being all modest.
Sara, aren't you a Mac user? Time Capsule is built into Tiger I believe.
As for brands, I am a big LaCie fan. They've never done me wrong.

Oh, thought you were. Still, there are plenty of options. Check out SyncBack (http://www.2brightsparks.com/downloads.html), it's got a free version available.
pizza and beer?
That's different. There's beer involved.

if you buy something like the "my passport elite" from bestbuy - it has an auto backup program that comes with it - There are many little packages for the home pc that will work fairly easy - I will recommend you first back up somethign small and easy - and then try to recoup it though - just so you know if it works bring something back that you just lost.
Far to many times I've used a back up program only to find I couldn't restore the fucking backup. That sucks balls!
