anyone ever had something like these:
http://shop.navyseals.com/bates-11-paratrooper-side-zip-boot-1685.html
i'm thinking of getting some (although i want steel toe and i don't think those are). unlacing and lacing boots to get through airport security is a bitch and this seems much simpler.
anyway, anyone had any experience with these style of boots? zippers last? stay up? just curious.

How about not trying to board a plane in steel toes

that's what i do now.
recently, i've stopped packing them, though, because of airlines cracking down on baggage and the boots weigh a lot (for shoes) and take up a lot of room in my 1 allowed bag.
anyway, i thought this would be a good option so that i could still bring them with me and not have the hassle of unlacing and lacing them up again at security.

If you absolutely HAVE TO have steel toes, you could get some 3i's?
I'm always at some airport or another, and I just wear a pair of vans slip-ons or flip-flops. That way- while every Tom, Dick, and Harriette is trying to unlace/zip their shoes- I've already got my tray in the queue to get x-rayed.
Fuck...you're from goddamn Florida. I KNOW you own a pair of Reefs or Rainbows. Just chillax on the boots thing at the airport. Nobody likes to travel in heavy clothing...

here's a tip, by a bigger suitcase...i travel with a lot more shit then you (boots, hair dryer, iron, heavy ass dob kit) and i'm sure a pair of your steels in your suitcase is going to bring you over the maximum weight limit...

true. i have vans. i also typically wear the northamerican skin uniform of jeans and adiddas shoes. maybe i'll wear braces and flip flops. that will be the new florida uniform.

you'd be suprised. my bags always weigh in at like 48 lbs. everyone makes fun of me for how much i bring. i am not a light packer.
p.s. i'm kidding about the "uniform" thing. people don't know me here yet but i am rarely serious. i don't want people to think that i am THAT guy.

your boots really aren't going to make a difference...i travel on average twice a month for work or personal reasons and i highly doubt you pack more then me...you're still allowed up to two bags on most mainstream carriers and the ones that are "cracking down" are charging for baggage and are doing so regardless of weight...

well, i have an airport that would appropriately be housed in mayberry (sp). there are limited carriers.
i just flew to LAX on contintenal last week with my wife and the 10 month old and i ended up paying a $125 extra luggage fee on the way back that i didn't have to pay on the way there even though it was the same stuff.
oh, and contintental is for sure a 1-bag carrier. the only other one i really fly with any regularity is delta and i don't remember if they are 1 or 2 right now. i need to check.
i need my own private jet, obviously. this is just too much of a pain in the ass.

Jeebus, guys! I lived out of a 35 Litre pack for 40 days... And, yes- It was a carry on. That, and my camera bag/daypack. I never checked anything, never paid anything...and I still looked damn spiffy.
I know ya'll can get on without packing your entire life into your suitcases. Sara- well... you can do whatever you want...haha. I know you got your shit on lock.
But, my fellow Floridian- you need some packing lessons. You don't hafta bring your whole closet with you.

do you mean rather than steel toes? its not the steel that makes the burden. everyone has to take off their shoes in airport security. if i am wearing flip flops, i have to take them off and put them on a tray and send them through the x-ray. it's not the steel. its the 10i straight-lace that is the pain.

Gay.
I can pack for a week in an overnight bag. 3 day trip, that's a single backpack. I cannot STAND packing heavy.

Agreed. A girl I was traveling with once, had a 90 litre pack! In the tropics, no less! It was completely ridiculous. She could barely lift it. I tried to convince her to give away half the clothes to street kids, and buy a smaller pack...
I love not having any checked baggage. No long check-ins, no waiting at the baggage claim, no losing your luggage, and no lugging around heavy shit.

I say forget the boots. Wear some trainers, or something. Dress comfortably. There is no need to look like a "super sussed skinhead warrior" at the airport. If anything, it may get you pulled aside at security or customs...

i was mostly kidding. my travel is for work where i have to wear slacks and button down shirts and i (typically) wear like sweater vests. then all of the crap that goes with that. and its typically a week.

wait, what? you don't have to look like a super sussed skinhead warrior everywhere you go? dammit. i need to re-read my skinhead manual.
it's not a huge deal. i'm not whining about it or anything. and most times i am fine without. i was just curious about if anyone knew anything about them. im an old fat guy and 2 second zip is appealing for other reasons than just airport security.

never said i bring my whole closest, i said that my stuff more then likely weighs more...i can't travel with out my dryer and my hair iron, right there, that weighs probably about the same as a pair of boots...i need casual shoes, work shoes for the trade shows and usually two pairs of dress shoes...sometimes i bring my boots, sometimes i don't...traveling for work is far different then traveling for personal reasons..i don't go to fancy dinners every night of the week when going on vacation, so i don't need a fancy outfit packed away for every night of the trip...it all depends, but my grooming shit outweighs boots on a whole, that was mainly my point...
simmer down there woman!

I have a pair of Bates duty boots from when I worked security. They are quality, but will look like shit if you try to wear them as if they were Docs or something. They can't be straight lace either, because they have speed laces.
Wear sambas at the airport.

ever used any other jump boots than Corcorans...fully recomended by me!!!
A friend of mine has a pair of Corcoran's with the side zip (I've worn many a pair of Corcorans, but never with the side zip as they are forbidden wear in Airborne Units). The zippers stuck on him and eventually broke, and sometimes they would slip down on him. I wouldn't recommend them.
