a friend of mine is trying to get into the photography business and wants to watermark her work. is there some sort of free software she can download or does she have to go and buy photoshop? she's gonna have to get photoshop eventually, but for now, she just needs to build her portfolio.

Google shows a lot of free ones - I've only used Paint Shop pro and Photoshop myself though.

GIMP is good, too. and it's free/open source.

lots of tutorials on the site and stuff. that is what i recommend to people that don't want to buy (or steal) photoshop.

Paint.net is a free product that was specifically designed to look and feel Photoshop-ish.

It's a good product, and I know it will do watermarking.
