wireless connection

i updated my windows vista package and restarted my laptop,i can only get limited or local internet connection.
im on my sons laptop now so i know its not any loose cables or poor signal from my wirless box.
what can i do to re connect to the internet on my laptop, ive tried dissconnecting and putting in my security code and still no luck.
im stumped.:confused:
