Rap is crap. It leads black men down a path of dispair. You need positive black role models, not "thugging" it up.

It's not necessarily rap that does that, it's the artists. Check out De La Soul, very positive. You get the same negative influences in all types of music.

Ah yes though to the topic at hand. early 90s shit was good.

Shit like C-BO,Onyx, the solo Ice Cube shit, Bone Thugs. Lots of classics coming out of the west with such a different sound and just style.

there is nothing wrong with street fighting and drinking......there is stuff wrong with murder, dealing, pimping(sort of), and treating woman like shit. Do you get it?

edit: if your dumb enough to go out and do everything an oi album sings about..... the worst thing that could happen is they would throw you in the drunk tank and maybe some charges would be brought up..nothing seriouse though. Now if your dumb enough to go out and do everything a rap album sings about... you will most likely be doing time for life (if you get caught, which they always do eventually)

Wasn't rap originally based on what happened around the artist and just another way for streetkids to express themselves? The lyrics are based on events, the events aren't based on the lyrics. All this pimping, killing, dealing, etc. was allready threre. This topic is about early 90ies rappers so I'm not talking about the newschool shit.

I don't think anyone is stupid enough to do something like that because snoop dogg says it in his lyrics (ofcourse there are exceptions). The mayority of all the shit that happens out there is because of poverty and not because of some fucking rapper that raps about bitches and hoe's.

If rap was about what was happening around them, why is every rhyme from the first person? Fist fighting will earn someones respect, shooting someone is for gang-bangers. You white people, especially you young ones don't get it. When making money is glamourized by popular media, and your options are limited by your exposure to black success, you don't have many options.

You view on the topic is typical and very indicative of someone that has obviously only listen to a sliver of the kinds of hip-hop thats out there....

within the genre there are many sun genres that talk about different shit from superficial lifestyle stuff(cash money) to growing up in shit neighbourhoods and dealing with violence (snoop, Dre, NWA..etc) to hip-hop as a musical artform and more expressive (Mos Des, Roots).....You also have dudes like Nas who takes on the role of storyteller and tell interesting sometimes moral tales that entertain and educate. You have groups Like Outkast who are trying to push outwards and re-define the "hip-hop sound" and how songs are made.

There were also sub-genres that rapped about all things african and used the music as a sort of re-conection tool to get young blacks reconnectted with there african roots and back on a spiritual path...There is Politically charged rappers like Dead Prez....and dudes like Meth and Red that just wanna get high and have fun.........

.......so stop with all this bitches and hoes nonsense cause it makes you look iggnorant.

There's rucking in the street and there's blood on your hands
Your'e boozing in the pub and going round in gangs
Cruising round in motors trying to get someone
Kick 'em stab 'em club 'em until the job is done

[Chorus]
There's violence in our town
There's violence all around
There's violence in your town
There's violence all around, around, around

People never learn however much you try
There's violence in your blood so someone's gota die
Cruising round in motors trying to get someone

Kick 'em stab 'em club 'em until the job is done

I like breaking arms and legs
snapping spines and wringing necks
now i'll knife you in the back
Kick your bones until they crack

I'm Evil, evil, evil, evil
Evil, evil, evil, evil

Jump up and down upon your head
Kick you around 'til your dead
Fill your body full of lead
See the roads turn to red

I'm Evil, evil, evil, evil
Evil, evil, evil, evil

I don't like trendy cunts who pose
Gonna punch you in the Nose
Stick my Marten in your crotch
Don't like you, you're too much

cunt if they stand in our way
This is our territory, that’s the way its gonna stay
Knowing the backstreets, like the back of your hand
Fighting for your pride like you’ll fight for your land
Ambush the enemy, show no mercy
There’s nowhere to run, nowhere to hide
No letting up, no turning back, no retreat in this attack

All out attack
No looking back, no turning back
All out attack
No yellow streaks running down our backs

Knowing the safe pubs where you’ve
got the back up
Mates you can rely on in the middle of a ruck
Stashing your weapons before the old bill come in
The people that you trust like your next of kin

I spent last night trying to chuck my bird
She was clinging to my leg like a homesick turd
'Your tits are too small, and your legs are too short,
I want a fit bird from the Sunday Sport,
I can't hear my records when you sit on my face,'
Then she mouths off in front of my mates....
'But you told me that you loved me!'
'I never fucking did!'
'You used to bring me flowers!'
'Shut your fucking grid!'
'You acted dead sweet, and you called me fluffy pup!'
'You could cook, you could fuck, you could do the washing up, now I've had enough,
Go on, fuck off, get stuffed.'
I took her one side, and we started chatting:
'Tell the lads that, I'll kick your fucking twat in! Now piss off back to your mother's,
I've had enough, say another word, you'll get a boot up the chuff,
You're spotty, you're ugly, you smell like Billingsgate,'
Then she mouths off in front of my mates.....
I stormed off, I was going crazy,
When I got to the chippy, I had one foot in the grave,
She's got a seven foot dad, (well, just about)
He was going to rip my liver out, I said:
'Here you go, grandad, your turn to hold her,'
There was half a pint of gravy on the chip on my shoulder....

Ok, so yea in a few songs by popular oi bands we can see threats of domestic abuse, singing about stabbing people, singing about shooting people, songs about beating people up then hiding in safe areas and having people hide weapons for them.

This whole arguement is pretty lame. As I hope I just proved, there are exceptions all over the place. Some do this some do that. It's nothing more than that. As far as white suburb kids hearing rap and going out and acting thuggish and getting killed...that's their own fault. They could've done it by picking up some Madball and Vietnom cd's instead of Biggie and Half Dollar.

and even further if you want to make the arguement of I hate the talking about bling...how many fucking songs blabber about 'having the suss?"

Gravediggaz is good rap, lots of talent, but the lyrical content is purposely over-the-top... Just talks about suicide and killing people and stuff like that.

Kind of like how the Geto Boys had a lot to say about gangster shit and violence, but always played the Hip Hop for Peace festivals.

It's basically just pure entertainment value.

Deltron is probably my favorite. And I'm down with Atmosphere, although they have gotten very popular lately..

Go back to the sand box kiddie. You think two hip hoppers killing eachother (assuming it did even happen) is bigger than the fucking happenings of 9/11? Something even you should know about....not to mention the slaughter of Native American's....someone needs to boot your fucking head in, maybe then you'll get a clue.
