MONTREAL — The Crown is asking that a Montreal white-supremacist skinhead who pleaded guilty to wilfully promoting hatred on a website he created and managed be sentenced to one year in prison, followed by three years of probation. In his recommendation earlier this month to Judge Martin Vauclair, prosecutor Thierry Nadon noted that Jean-Sebastien Presseault’s crime was premeditated and violent in tone, and the punishment should be exemplary. “The sentence has to dissuade others from fomenting hatred,” Nadon said. As further evidence of Presseault’s belief, Nadon pointed to the 24 tattoos of racist and extremist groups’ symbols, including a swastika and the words “Sieg Heil,” that cover Presseault’s body.
