South Bend native, reputed skinhead, facing murder charges

South Bend native James Torkelson has been extradited from Oregon to California to face murder charges in San Diego County. Prosecutor Betsy McClutchey said Torkelson was arraigned last week on two counts of first-degree murder with two special circumstances: murder during a robbery and multiple murder. He also is charged with attempted murder and carjacking, she added. McClutchey said Torkelson had worked as a security guard at the Five Star Park Shuttle & Fly parking lot in San Diego. After he was fired, she said, he allegedly returned with three other men to rob the place in July 1999, they ended up killing a woman who worked in the toll booth and a man who managed the lot.
