The Red Hot Chili Peppers have agreed to allow the use of two songs as soundtracks for rides at Disneyland. "Around the World" will be used for the 'California Scremain' attraction, while their hit cover of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" will be heard while 'taking a ride on Space Mountain'.

In promotion of the songs usage, both will be remixed, in addition to changes to the rides' names, which will run from January 3 to April 26.

Damn...that shit just makes me sad. I remember seeing the Chili Peppers back in 1983 and that shit was off the hook! Serious Punk-Funk served up like it should...sad to see where they have ended up. This is the band that created "True Men Don't Kill Coyotes," "Get Up and Jump" and "Catholic School Girls in Trouble"? I'm very sad....

Yup, I agree. They used to kick ass back in the day, lots of heads at their shows in Sac too. They played at a place called the 2nd Level in Sac in like '84 or '85 and tore it the fuck up. Little one room dingy, upstairs club where like 5 fights brokeout outside while they played inside. They played Sac way before that too back in their sock puppet and Gargoyle shades days (that shit was gay as fuck but all the ladies used to eat it up).

Damn, I had forgotten about the single sock during the encore...silly as shit but seem to work for them. Yeah, shit would pop off even during those shows. Shit popped off everywhere....I remember taking a girl to go see Fine Young Cannibals at Fenders in 86 and the show and having the cops closed the show down because of all the fights. There should be a lesson here...keep fucking around with heroin and your music will end up as a soundtrack for a fucking Disney ride.

haha...Pirates of the Carribean being the be all end all of their musical careers? It's true about all the fights, it didn't matter what band was playing ever, there would be fights no matter where or what crowd. The heroin scene was pathetic back then too, I just posted a bunch of shit about that in the Social D thread, another band full of junkies.

True story, I was up in Sac a while ago for a reunion with a bunch of my friends and was walking out of a liquor store and heard the words, "Got any spare change maaan?" I turned around and saw one of my oldest friends Erik from the scene smelling of piss, missing most of his teeth and arms just covered with track marks and bruises, I was shocked. It was fucking sad to see someone that was a good bro go out like a whiney, pathetic bitch that way.

Oh well, of the original scene I bet only maybe 20% made it out, all the rest are either dead, in prison, drug addicts or alcoholics. Only the strong have survived.

Shit, I hope that they at least hold out for "Mr. Toads Wild Ride" but most likely are going to be the soundtrack for the spinning tea cups, fucking pitiful. All of those fuckers were shooting up the horse and fucking themselves up beyond all repair. fucking sad to see what it did to dogs who just thought they wouldn't get tied to it...but it always got them. I remember seeing fucks with the plumbing stuck in their arms in clubs throughout L.A. county. Perkins Palace was notorious for that shit...and don't walking with thing shoes in the bathroom at the Country Club up in the Valley or you might get stuck with a random needle thrown away in panic because security came in.

Man, I didn't think people could do worse than the H and than fucking Meth started jumping everywhere around 84 with Crack right behind it. Fuckers losing their minds and doing all kinds of crazy shit. After 84 and until I got out of Cali in 86 I never walked around empty...shit was crazed. Cops got even more paranoid, heads tripping or wanting what you got because they were strung out, couldn't trust folks you came up with anymore because they too fucking high to know what was going on around them.

I hear ya about old dogs from the past. About three years ago I saw an old partner out panhandling on the street with his two little kids with him. He was so fucking strung out that he didn't even recognize me. I went the burger place across the street and got the kids some food but felt wounded that I couldn't do more than that.

Street gangs starting shoot each other over control of a fucking corner... You know the rest...shit just got sad and people just lost their way and their minds. The ones that got out were strong, lucky or both.

Meth and crack are what really killed the scene out here, a lot of people don't realize that. People started getting busted with ounces of meth and lots of guns, shacked up in the shittiest ghetto pads in town. Tweaking and firearms never mix well in any situation, throw in a little crack and you got a recipe for disaster. Friends and their families just seemed to self destruct as soon as that shit came around.

ESOX and I were talking about this in that freshcut thread, friends just getting methed and smoked out, doing stupid shit and going to prison for 10-15 years. Lost a shitload of friends that way, people that I thought were stronger and better than that went down and never got back up.

All that bullshit is why I eventually had to leave Sac, after my best friend went to prison that was the final straw. I still go up and visit regularly, always good to see the old crew, a good number of the boys are married, have families and have survived, but many are gone. Shit sucks, but that's life.

Too many people gone...people just feeling like nothing could touch them and snorting liquid drano up their nose like it was cocaine (which was bad enough on its own) but soon found that it wasn't anything like it. Man, I remember seeing friends turn into straight tweakers and the cops just fucking drooling to get them in front of a court that third time. Hitting someone over the head to get a fix (10+) and once they had you in the system, you had to be fucking Houdini to get out of that loop.

Drugs killed the scene because it broke down trust, made people so greedy they turned out their own friends on that shit just to make a buck. The violence was random shit (you remember when AK's started showing up on the docks?) but the meth and heroin was like a fucking systematic mass murder of the L.A. Skin, Punk and Hardcore Scene. Too fucking bad we were too full of ourselves to see it.

too bad but that band has turned to something else than it used to be. it started to suck after hillel slovak's death. "under the bridge" was that nail in the coffin. "uplift mofo party plan" was best record.

anyway, disneyland suck's.

edit: they should use that stevie wonder's version about "higher ground".
