I'm working on starting up a rocksteady band... and i've got an awesome Hammond B3 / Rhodes piano / Leslie speaker setup going right now that i'm really happy with... but it lacks reverb.

On an absolute long shot, does anyone have one of these Fender Reverb units they want to get rid of...or know someone who does? Yes, i'm watching craigstlist / ebay / local music shops ...but i figured there's enough musicians on this site that someone has to have one.

hammond B3? damn man...

Since you know what i'm talking about, i'll elaborate...

I used to own a 1939 Hammond BC ..the precursor to the B3 about 8 years ago when i lived in cincinnati. Of course, it weighed like 550 pounds, so gigging with it was impossible. I ended up selling it before i moved to detroit.

So i actually just bought a Korg BX3 ..the electronic version of the B3, with a ginormous Leslie 330 speaker cabinet. I sat the BX3 on top of my Rhodes 73 and it actually fits, ...and i've got both running through the Leslie speaker right now ....sounds good ... but i still need some reverb action. I'll post some pics later.

heh, i know that leslie, size is equal with small car. nowadays these electronic hammonds are so close to original with sound and ye, they must be lot more confortable to move around.

B3 here is something very rare and very wanted. if i remember right they needed one few years ago for some james brown gig. finally they found one guy who got one and concert was good. thing was, that after gig that B3 disappeared.

long time later they found it from national tv broadcast company's storage. some worker thought that it was company's. good that they found it anyway.

i've been couple of times in they're studio and it's great, lots of old stuff, lots of leslie speakers (them small wooden one's too), big carlec mixers, neumann microphones etc.

sometimes they sell some of that stuff away. i bought this old telefunken reel to reel recorder, used mostly for mastering. massive machine that is, paid around 170 euros for that. i think it was quite cheap.

hope you find that reverb.

I've emailed a friend that sometimes has that sort of thing...but like you said, it's a long shot

But more importantly, tell us about the (proposed) group...later on or in another thread. Rocksteady is my kinda genre

Thanks for asking. I found one at a local shop .. a decent '64 one for $650. That seems like a ton of money for what's a really simple circuit. What you're paying for is the fact it's a 40 some year old fender item, it's collectible.

I've got another thing i'm looking for right now, too - the Roland RE201 "space echo" delay / reverb unit. It's a tape relay .... you turn it on and it records you doing something, and then the little tape loops around inside it and plays / replays until it's recorded over again. It's pretty awesome ... used on all the old King Tubby recordings - if you've ever heard a dub record, i bet you money they used the RE201 on it.

The band i'm starting? Me on organ / rhodes and singing ... bass, drums, guitar, and maybe a horn or two.... slower stuff, more syncopated..crazily EQ'd, delay / reverb heavy. Rocksteady to a T. I'll let you know more as we start practicing.

I was thinking of the name "The Fault Tolerants".

Cool...yeah my friend didnt have one anyway...but said he wanted to buy one (if he had cash)!

Interesting to hear your ideas/vision about what would make your ideal "rocksteady" group. Can't say they match mine too closely, but who cares, variation is the spice...
I'll be interested to hear more once you get it going; we can chat the nuances then

And the band name idea is WAY over my low-browed head, haha

What you can do is order a SPRING reverb tank offline for about 20 dollars. If you're at all handy with a soldering iron just take the signal right before the preamp, and send it to the tank, then out from the tank to the pre.
