i know exactly what you mean. i'm the godfather to my 1-year-old niece, and i'm gonna do my damnedest to keep her head on straight. i know her parents will do a fine job as well, but a little extra guidance is never a bad thing.

for one, make sure she only gets to watch PBS and stuff like that.

For two, don't tell her or let other people tell her she's "so mature" "so grown up" "so smart", etc. Children do need encouragement, but not letting them be their own age causes so many problems. If everyone tells her she's like an adult she'll start thinking she's ready to make adult decisions.
