Trying to read any kind of an instruction manual or textbook always knocks me out. I hate not being able to sleep too, always seems to happen when my brain won't quiet down.

I was gonna read Fredrick Douglas' autobiography. You read me like a book with that suggestion. No pun intended, baby.

Not going to the Bread/Chalon birthday show then?

I'm still a little dopesick, and I turn into state rehab treatment for 28 days on monday, so I'm not partying.

Well, I do have 'Elements of Style" and St. Martin's Guide to Writing....but I feel like being entertained.

Entertained? Try "Snowcrash."

Solid read? The Book of Five Rings or The Hagakure.

Most of the entertaining reading I've been doing lately is sci-fi though.

I fucking hate scifi and fantasy. My motherfuckers are like John Fante, Bukowski, Burgess, Hemmingway, and as for modern authors, Michael Connelly and John Grisham keep me from shooting myself in the head on the corner of Beverly and Vermont.

And how could I forget Edward Bunker and Eddie Little?

I hear ya. I've been feeling like shit lately and barely getting over it so I'm not going to push it. Although I'm still debating it even this late in the night just because it would be good to go catch up with everyone.

And in honor of that, Jason, I'm gonna make me a strong rum and coke and just talk shit on this board all night. I'll start saying shit like Caspar has no literary taste whatsoever, that Joel has the game of an akward 14 year old, and that you sir, should just grow the fuck up.

joey d
01-24-2010, 04:16 AM
Man, I'm doin' a lot better than I should be. The H never left, but I kept it at a minimum, just to stay well. But now I'm going into a full on treatment facility, and hopefully that'll be it. I'll still drink, but opiates are out for me. My uncle has me working out, and it's busting my ass, but I'm getting in shape pretty quick. Can't wait to get out of rehab, and start my greyhound tour. Gonna write a book about it, all the adventure. Maybe it'll get picked up by a publisher, maybe not, but I don't care.

How's you and the fam?

I think that's only true if they're avid readers. I know I've had people look at me sideways when I pick up a cereal box and don't pour out a bowl.

You know what you can credit yourself with? Seriously? Turning on Joey D to poetry. I alwats thought it too pretentious and for coffehouse people, until I read a long poem in one of your blogs on myspace a while back. Serio. You're the reason why I can read poetry now.

Bless your heart, it is good stuff...ain't it. It's leaving a wake in it's path though....I mean, I smacked a random windshield with a slim jim on it and just last night my cousin was banned from the applebees after leaving here. We did drink a hole jar but then again, we were on quality control.

Yeah, On The Road is kinda what I'm going to be going for afterI get back from my trip. It's going to start with rehab...which starts in about 5 hours actually....but it's going to be a lot more coherent, and focusd more on the people I come across and their lives. We'll see...I hope it turns out good.

Good luck in there.
