he can go to the poles and vote for himself, but he can't go to jury duty like every other american has to?

Trial by jury is a "trial by your peers." Obama is maybe peer to the four or five surviving ex-presidents.

I remember this one time I was in a taking a dump in a public restroom and I ran out of toilet paper. I asked President Obama (who was in the stall next to me) to give me some toilet paper and he didn't. What a dick.

Has any president ever done jury duty?

No, not while they were serving. Several have been summoned, including Reagan, Bush Sr and Clinton.

They had Oprah on a jury down there a few years back and it was a media circus, could you imagin what it would be like with Obama there.

ok, and? it's always a media frenzy when any public figure goes anywhere...it's about civic duty, being an american and doing what is responsible..do i think that any major celebrity or politician would ever be selected to sit on a major case where they would be sequestered for any length of time? no, but that's not the issue..saying that you're too busy to sit in a room for 6 hours is a bullshit excuse when you have enough time to go to martha's vineyard or hawaii for vacations within your first year of office. you can find the time to fly your wife new york for a date night, but you can't go back to chicago for less than a day?

yes, i know this isn't any major political discussion and ranks pretty low for everything else going on in his presidency, but i read a blurb about it and it pissed me off...much like every other post that's created on this site.

So then why bother having him go there in the first place. I think I can give him a pass, seeing that being President is a pretty important job. When he is done being President, 3 years from now I hope, he will have to due his duty if called again.

One other thing. Wouldnt the White House be his primary address now, not his home in Crook County? Would he still be considered a resident of Crook County?

Lets be realistic. The man is the leader of one of the mot powerfull countrys in the world, do you REALLY expect him to report for jury duty? I dont see this being a big deal since other Presidents have done it in the past lets just call it a Presidential Perk and move on.

end o thee discussion. Why do cops turn on there lights to go through traffic and then pull into McDonalds for lunch? They like the taste of spit and because they can. Also really? This really is upsetting to you? I think the son of a bitch sitting in court instead of doing his fucking job would be a little bit more frustrating.

"because they can" isn't a fucking excuse for anyone to be above the law - in any instance, at any time ..and anyone who doesn't get pissed off at seeing people who are supposed to uphold laws but instead are breaking them, they need to get their heads examined.

jesus fucking christ..this board wouldn't even exist if people didn't make posts about things that are on their minds at the time...all of you billy badasses can sit there and think whatever the fuck you want...i read an article, it pissed me off and i wrote a fucking post about it..get over it.

I find it really odd that the fact he is a lawyer didn't exempt him from jury duty. It would in Canada. It seems like there is very little that exempts someone from jury duty in the US.

the only way you get released from jury duty is after you've been selected, at random, and gone through voir dire - the process of interviewing prospective jurors...everyone who's mentioned "jury of your peers" doesn't seem to grasp the concept that you don't find out who your peers are until after you've been assigned to a case...the computer that selects your drivers license number doesn't know if you're a lawyer, a plumber or a president...that's my whole point..ANYONE who has a driver's license in the united states can be picked..and not everyone who is picked for jury duty gets assigned to a case - even then, more than half the people get sent home.

I just find it pretty interesting, in Canada there is a list of people who are ineligible such as lawyers and any type of corrections officer; not only are they ineligible but so are there spouses*. But the spouses do still have to show up for jury pool- they are just excused as soon as they go in for the first jury selection.
Are you sure it's your drivers license that pulls you for jury duty- I thought it was more when you get your license and you fill the separate section when you register yourself with a political party.

MazelTovCocktail
02-03-2010, 03:53 PM
it used to be like that, but people stopped registering to vote! you can get by without voting, driving - not so much.

i find it interesting that people are actually "ineligible" from the start and don't get picked at all...it's pretty much general knowledge here that if you have anything to do with the law (or law making), be it yourself, your spouse or even friends of cops and whatnot, you're not going to get picked..but again, that's only after you've been called for jury duty, if you get assigned to a case and they start the jury selection.

the simple answer to this question is: yes, he is too busy. love him, hate him, used to love him but now hate him, couldn't care less about him it just isn't plausible. which is why other presidents were pardoned from it as well.

especially with such bigger issues at there that he can be criticized for, worrying about jury duty makes no sense. especially since if anything once he showed up for jury selction the judge would throw him out to prevent the circus that would follow if he was picked.

Now we get to the real point, bitterness. If you just would've become a convicted felon at 18 you wouldn't have had this problem.

this implies that the thought of finding really oi glasses doesn't keep some people up at night. which it surely does.
