Canadian military seeks Muslim recruits

Seems like a good idea in principle, i'm not certain however if gettin gin the military is difficult enough to make this an affirmative action type...I would appreciate any input. I can def see the advantage of having military personal that speak the local language and have a deeper understanding of the countries that they are in.

Nothing wrong with actively recruiting for personnel that have skillsets or knowledge advantageous in a theatre you expect to operate in.

Check the kind of bonuses you can get in the USA if you want to sign up and you speak, say, Farsi and Arabic.

Its outrageous.......theyre now playing monthly stipends if you ,at the least,managed to complete the language course(of course the better you are the money you can make each month.)..........If you want a Government or Military job learn a Middle Eastern language...If youre a civilian learn Spanish(but thats a different topic:wink:)!!!!!!

this fixation you have with the middle East is odd....

bottom line is, most people in the West havent the first fucking clue about Islam, Muslims, or even jihadists.... the 'extremists' who are being used to stereotype the Muslims were totally acceptable as allies in the war against communism.... as to their 'savagery' which I saw mentioned in another thread.... tell your government to sever all ties with all Muslim nations and see how long the US lasts.....

and ye know what..... if we hadnt been soft enough to allow our culture to be infiltrated by the alien christian culture we probably wouldnt be in this fucking mess because the Middle east would be as relevant to us as Africa....

My interest in the middle east stem out of my general interest in history and cultural anthropology. I am interestted in the history of the reagion and the cross influence that its had with the west over the last hundred years. I post these things becuase they are topical and tend to cause a broader spectrum of people to include themselves in the conversation....is that so odd?

If you like we can go back to the old politics thread standby of "WP vs Sharp"....but that beyond boring.

Ex CIA Operative Robert Baer said that during the late 80's mid nineties there were tones of feild agents in the middle east and collectively they were pretty useless because 99 percent of them were middle age white prostestants that could not speak arabic and/or farsi and had little knowledge about the culture of the region......ignorance = bad intelligence gathering which certainly does not help our governments out.

Are you nuts? There are MILLIONS of these people that have left those countries and now live in the west.

the US has a lot of incentives to give to people to sign up to be linguists, but one issue is that it has produced some shit soldiers -- we have had incidences of basically giving Arabs free rides, eltting them be shit soldiers, and eventually, of course, stabbing us in the back.

the guy who spent a few years in the Army in the 80s got all sorts of benefits being an arab and then cased the Dar Es Salaam and Nairobi embassies for the 1998 attack.

also, the 98G-Korean MOS was ruined -- kids get promised to be SGT after a few months after their AIT, and they get it -- they are ignorant idiot 18 year olds whose total amount of time in the military has been about 8-9 months, and now they are sergeants while we have promotion points at 798 for years on end, making it extraordinarily difficult for people to get anywhere.
