I can't say I have goten into any of PIL's stuff. I got a few albums mostly why everyone else does because of Johnny. I listened to them a few times and I think I've lost them. And like it or not, if it wasn't for his ass I would have never listened to music. The Pistols were the first band I found as a kid.

Seattle is my favorite pil song, as silly as it is since I live here. I've always liked that song.
Few others are decent, others suck. It's a mixed bag with them.

I have no problem admitting that I am a PIL fan of certain songs. As a guitarist of 25 years, Johnny Rotten was lucky to get the master Steve Vai to play on the one release. The solo on "Ease", to me, is one of the best rock guitar moments ever recorded. I once met Steve Vai and told him that, and he agreed.

The first album took a lot of people by surprise. I can remember reading an interview at the time with Rotten saying he wanted the Pistols to sound like PiL but they (the others) wanted a more orthodox sound.
Metal Box/Second Edition - still into that. I couldn't afford the first pressing as a kid and had to wait for the double album.

Thats not PiL. It's just Afrika Bambaataa & John Lydon recording under the name Time Zone. Sweet tune though.

Some of their earlier stuff is pretty groundbreaking in that art school/Throbbing Gristle type way, Metal Box / Flowers Of Romance etc and there's a few okay later songs (Disappointed, Don't Ask Me,) at least lyrically, and Lydon is still pretty entertaining in that don't give a fuck way of his...but anything with Steve Vai on has to be binned as far as I'm concerned...too California-rock for me...

I was thinking about Public Image Limited, I have to admit their records are hit and miss, but hell when they hit it was great stuff!

i liked the 1st album and a few after it aswell. they're better than the sex pistols, that being said dont dig up 2 year old threads unless you have something absolutely interesting to say.

I saw them with The Sugarcubes and New Order in 89. It was a killer live show, but the songs from record to record were hit or miss as previously stated.
