(March 20, 2007) While the gang warfare often associated with American or Brazilian cities does not exist in Santiago, the death of a neo-Nazi youth last week in a central Santiago location has once again drawn attention to the bizarre clashes that plague the city’s streets when the sun goes down. Marcos Briones, a 25-year-old neo-Nazi, was beaten to death March 10 by a group of Colo-Colo soccer fans who were awaiting public transportation at Santiago’s Plaza Italia, a transit hub that connects the rich Santiago boroughs with their poorer neighbors.
