But they still managed to score one of the quickest World Cup qualifer goals - against England. Still we managed to beat them 7 - 1.

Double bonus, as we didn't win by seven clear goals, Scotland failed to qualify, again. Can't remember the year off-hand.

Edit - found it. 1993 and they scored in eight seconds.

It was in the qualifyers for World Cup 94 (USA). The writing should have been on the wall with that early San Marino goal. Despite beating them at home too (6-0) and Gasgoines two goals in the 4-0 home drubbing of Turkey --- we still shamefully failed to qualify. 1 point out of 6 from Norway and the same from Holland, left them to go to across the pond, and us to paddle in the murky waters of despair, or was it Southend beach?

How can they lose 3-0 to Iceland and then three days later beat Spain....?
